2. Overview:
The I’m ok app is communications gateway
which acts as a medium when sending or
broadcasting a set of messages to pre-defined
contacts. The app is extremely useful in case of
sending out messages during an emergency or
critical situation.
To understand the problem statements and to
find out the answers for it a survey was created for
a set of audience. It was taken by a total of 46
people from Earthquake and Tsunami affected
places.
3. Design:
The key elements in the design are simplicity but with an
attractive UI that will help users to use the app in a quick
and easy manner. This factor is key as the users will be in a
relative state of shock when there is a need for them to use
it.
Some of the key aspects of the design will be elaborately
explained to understand the features better.
•The picture in the slide depicts the home page of the app
where the most options are available for the user. The
user has an option to send the messages as soon as they
login using the “Quick Send” option.
•The “Edit text” option is used for changing or editing the
text to that which is preferred by the user. The message
can be changed to anything which may make them
broadcast the message efficiently.
•The “settings” option is where the changes that need to be
made with regard to contacts, security etc. can be taken
care of.
•The final option in the page is “Send after edit” which
allows the user to send the text after it has been edited for
4. Design: (contd.)
• The next important phase in the design is
called where the accounts that need to be
setup for the first time will be synced.
• The user still has the option of syncing their
account in the settings option available in the
home page.
• The user has an option to go back to
complete details in the previous page or go
ahead with the sync.
• By setting up third party-apps like Facebook,
Whatsapp, Mail and Twitter will require
authentication like user id and password etc.
to sync with them.
• SMS will not require any authentication as it
is an in-built feature in the phone.
5. Design: (contd.)
• The final important design is the editing
screen of the text which holds the text for
all available medium of broadcasting.
• The user will be able to edit and save the
text of the accounts that have been synced
and will also be able to save their work so
that there is no need of typing it again.
• Here the user also has an option of deleting
or not using a particular set of medium as
part of their customized broadcasting.
6. Important Features:
Some of the important features include:
•An simple yet efficient user interface which can
be used by people of all ages.
•An option to connect with some of the best
possible Social media to spread an emergency
message.
•This enables users to connect with a larger set
of audience than expected.
•Customized contact list for every set of
medium available.
•Failed messages can be re-sent again from the
same page.
7. Native apps
A native mobile app is a smartphone application that is coded in a specific
programming language, such as Objective C for iOS and Java for Android
operating systems. Native mobile apps provide fast performance and a high
degree of reliability.
They also have access to a phone's various devices, such as its camera and
address book. In addition, users can use some apps without an Internet
connection.
However, this type of app is expensive to develop because it is tied to one
type of operating system, forcing the company that creates the app to make
duplicate versions that work on other platforms. Most video games are
native mobile apps.
8. How Native apps
helps:
Hybrid App: This type of application has cross-platform
compatibility but can still access a phone’s hardware. It is developed
using platforms such as Sencha, PhoneGap and Mosync.
Dedicated Web App: A website that is tailored to function on a
mobile device. These are tailored to a specific platform and will not
work on other smartphones or feature phones.
Generic Mobile App: A mobile website that will work with all mobile
phones.
In the early stages of the smartphone market, most apps were
tailored to the iPhone. However, the market share for Android
phones grew, thus, the need for cross-platform functionality became
an issue.

Play the slide show for this presentation to listen to the audio commentary by Peter Walsh and view slide timings. Or, click the sound icon on a slide for controls that you can use to hear the audio at your own pace.
A little organization will go a long way to enhancing your PowerPoint presentation.
Your title slide should be catching and relevant to your audience – offer something in the title that your audience wants.
Keep some basic principles in mind:
Your slides should complement what you have to say, not say it for you.
Keep slides direct and to the point - less is more!
Choose a background color or design that enhances and complements your presentation rather than competes with it.
Don’t get too fancy - a simple font, elegant color scheme and clear message is more important than lots of information (clutter!) on the slide.
Keep it simple! The purpose of the PowerPoint slide is to keep the mind of your audience focused – fewer words are better.
