Congratulations to Joe Weigel for being selected as the AFDP Associate Spotlight! Joe was nominated for his continued mentorship and support of the current program participants. His involvement serves as a great example of the strength of the AFDP alumni network at Walmart. Joe is from Berryton, Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Finance & Accounting. He joined Walmart through the AFDP where he rotated through Global Tech, Merch Finance, Supply Chain FP&A, and Sam’s Club Strategy. Following the program, Joe was promoted to his current Manager role supporting the InHome Delivery business. He credits the AFDP for providing the opportunity to work on meaningful projects across the company while building a strong network of peers and leaders. In NWA, Joe loved getting involved in local recreation sports leagues. Let's give a big round of applause for Taylor Atwell, CPA, our AFDP Associate Spotlight this month! Taylor's nomination comes as a testament to her exceptional leadership, dedication and proactive approach to her role at Walmart. Taylor grew up in Rogers, AR and graduated from the University of Arkansas, where she earned her Bachelors in Accounting and Finance, and later pursued a Masters in Accounting. After completing her education, Taylor joined Walmart as an AFDP Analyst and graduated from the program in 2022. During her time in the program, Taylor supported the following teams: WMT US – Operations Finance, International Controllership, US Merchandise Finance – Food, and Digital Transformation – S4 Hana. Currently, Taylor is doing exceptional work on the US Operations Finance Team supporting our stores in the North business unit. She credits the AFDP with providing her with a broad understanding of the company through rotations, while also allowing her to create and develop valuable connections. A true Arkansan at heart, Taylor appreciates the balance of urban amenities and outdoor activities that Northwest Arkansas offers. She has thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the development and changes in her hometown area over the years. Our AFDP participants have had some amazing opportunities throughout their time in program. During a rotation, you might even get to travel to another country! Last week, I had the privilege of traveling to Canada to visit our business partners alongside members of the international eComm and controllership teams in Bentonville. The trip was a great opportunity to deep dive into various areas of the business, learn about the customer experience and supply chain through a guided store and fulfillment center tour, and make meaningful connections with the team in person! We engaged in thought-provoking discussions and explored how to leverage our collective strengths to drive growth. My biggest takeaway, however, was creating invaluable connections with my teammates in Canada in a way that’s incomparable to Zoom. I’m very thankful to my leadership team, Ricardo Peçanha, CPA, MBA and Dawn M. Ptak, CPA for investing in my development and for the support from Walmart AFDP. Thank you to the Canada team for your hospitality and enriching sessions! I’m excited to apply these learnings as I continue supporting international and growing professionally. Excited to see where Walmart takes me next!
