How does charging electric shipping vessels work? Take a look at our map below to see our new Megawatt Charging System (MCS), at the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA). The MCS will provide a crucial new charging facility for local operators, with its unique location on the banks of the IJ river enabling e-vessels and e-vehicles to benefit from fast, on-the-go charging. Being within the ETCA, it will also play a vital role in enabling testing of high-power charging solutions across the marine sector. And the benefits it delivers are significant: ➡️ Speed: Vessels with 500KwH to 5MWh batteries can fully recharge within 2 hours ➡️ Flexibility: A rotatable, extendable charging arm provides docking position flexibility and enables vessels of different sizes – from small ferries to barges – to be supported ➡️ Compatibility: With both an MCS and Combined Charging System (CCS) connector the megawatt charger can accommodate a wide range of vessels, vehicles and battery types ➡️ Efficiency: Integrated into ETCA’s microgrid, the new Megawatt Charging System will be intelligently controlled by an energy management system to deliver valuable efficiencies and spread energy consumption over the day in a smarter, more balanced way Learn more about our Megawatt Charging System resource here: https://lnkd.in/eqjkwPD2 Cautionary note: https://lnkd.in/gi_wDYdR

LNG can help harder-to-abate sectors, like shipping, decarbonise. Fossil LNG can already be used for an immediate carbon reduction from fuel oil, while bio-LNG and e-LNG can be dropped in at any proportion to help meet carbon-intensity targets. In a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, the LNG fuel pathway’s adaptability means it is set to play an important role in the energy transition, from as soon as today. Tahir Faruqui, General Manager, Global Head of Downstream LNG at Shell, explores this in more detail in the full article below. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the launch of Shell’s innovative Megawatt Charging System (MCS) at the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam recently. The charger’s riverside location will enable fast, on-the-go charging for electric shipping vessels and trucks, while demonstrating our commitment to providing decarbonisation solutions across a port’s ecosystem. It was wonderful to see so many people at the launch – including many shipping and logistics companies. Decarbonising shipping is a huge task. But the industry support for innovative technology like this demonstrates that with collaboration and commitment it is one we can collectively rise to. Today, we officially launched Shell’s first innovative Megawatt Charging System [MCS]. The MCS dual-purpose charging system is designed to provide fast, flexible on-the-go charging for electric marine vessels AND heavy-duty road transport vehicles. The launch event at the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam was also streamed live and shows just how important innovation is to the energy transition in critical sectors like these.    No more complex charging systems getting in the way of efficient terminal operations. Now, terminals and shipowners can have the ability to: ▪ Extend the range of their electric vessels through increased standard charging rates and the option for fast charging.  ▪ Power a wider range of vessels and vehicles with standard connections that make on-the-go charging easier and more efficient.
