With the launch of the Shell’s first 1MW MSC dual-purpose charger at Shell’s Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA) on the 17th of June, we caught up with Aleid van der Wiel and Hilmar Van Den Dool to uncover three key takeaways from the day and what this means for the future of EV charging for heavy-duty fleets. 🔋 Innovative, dual-purpose charging is here. 🔋 Engineered by SBRS GmbH to support shipping and logistics companies like Royal Den Hartogh Logistics to electrify their fleets across the marine and commercial road transport sectors and meet their decarbonisation goals, the unique charger design enables dual charging across both modes of transport under one infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and sustainability in the multimodal mobility sector. ⏱There’s a need for fast, flexible and reliable charging.⏱ The site features a smart charging management system that includes a microgrid, 110 (AC) charge points, 9 (DC) fast charge points, battery storage, and the charger itself. Access to fast charging solutions which accommodate different vehicle types and power requirements is needed to present electrification as a viable and efficient route to decarbonisation for fleets. ⚡ One charger is just the beginning and we’re not stopping there. ⚡ Scaling EV technologies and working with players across the transport and energy sectors is critical to building a strategic charging ecosystems for electric fleets. Whether this be private, public or on-the go charging, continued innovation and investment is needed to scale EV offerings and drive industry-wide adoption. 🚛 Big Changes for Commercial Vehicles in Germany! 🇩🇪 From July 1st, new tolls for vehicles in the range 3.5- 7.5 tonnes take effect. Is your fleet ready? Germany moved almost a quarter (23.5%) of all European Union tonnage in 2022.¹ Yet, it was one of very few countries in Europe where tolls did not apply to vehicles in the range 3.5 – 7.5 tonnes. This will soon change. With such a key role to play in European Transport, these new tolls aim to make road freight more eco-efficient and promote investment in sustainable, low-emission vehicles. We're also excited to kick off our Shell Safety LNG Program with an event at the Piotrków Trybunalski LNG site in Poland, where we reviewed safety procedures with our commercial partners GASPOL - the LNG supplier, ZBM SA - the construction and maintenance provider, and our team. Together, we covered LNG unloading, uplifting, emergency responses, and conducted a Safety Walk.
