Today we are announcing that Avelia, Shell Aviation’s blockchain-powered sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) book and claim solution, is expanding to Denmark with DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark A/S. The agreement marks Avelia’s evolution to becoming an industry solution. By allowing third-party companies like DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark to offer Avelia's services, our aim is to create a network effect that could help to rapidly accelerate SAF adoption across the aviation sector. Through Avelia, DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark customers looking to reduce emissions from their business travel or air freight transport will be able to purchase environmental attributes associated with fully traceable SAF. Made possible by a book and claim chain of custody model, the allocation of the environmental attributes and the delivery of SAF are securely recorded and tracked using blockchain, a tamper-proof digital database. At Shell Aviation, we get asked a lot of questions around aviation lubricants. We’ll be exploring these and sharing insights and knowledge from our expert team in a new series called ‘Lubes FAQs’. For our first instalment, we’re diving into aviation greases. Whether you’re a pilot, aircraft owner, or mechanic, selecting the correct grease for a specific application is one of the most important choices you can make. One of the questions we often receive is whether you need more than one grease for your plane. For most aircrafts, the short answer is likely ‘yes’. From preventing metal-to-metal contact to shielding against corrosion, each ingredient used in aviation greases brings its own unique properties. Precise consistencies are therefore vital to ensure optimal operating performance under the specific operating condition in which the grease is used. Not all greases are created equal and using them correctly is the difference between optimising your plane’s performance and causing serious damage to your aircraft. AeroShell’s range of greases are multipurpose, and specifically formulated to excel in wide-ranging applications, helping to reduce costs and improve maintenance efficiency. In our latest edition of the #SAF101 series, we're focusing on the current state of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production volumes. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), SAF production doubled in 2023, reaching over 600 million litres compared to the 300 million litres produced in 2022. IATA predicts that with effective government incentives, SAF production could reach 30 billion litres by 2030. To achieve this goal, it’s crucial that policymakers create market incentives and enable the conditions for the scaling up of SAF production and use. We’re working with organisations and businesses across the aviation value chain, to establish the foundations for unlocking SAF. Watch Adel Al Redha, Deputy President and COO of Emirates talk about how the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is vital to the airline’s sustainability efforts. Emirates recognises that prosperity and sustainability travel together and is working with Shell on the technical, logistical and safety aspects of making SAF available at key hubs. This collaboration is one example of how Shell is supporting customers as they reduce their emissions and how Shell is working with leading companies to support the energy transition. More progress on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)! ✈ 🙌 We’re pleased to announce the delivery of over 3,000 metric tonnes of neat SAF, alongside conventional jet fuel to Emirates at Heathrow. The delivery represents the largest volume of SAF Emirates has purchased to date, and the first time the airline will use SAF on flights from London Heathrow. Our SAF relationship with Emirates now spans two continents after we supplied 950 metric tonnes of blended SAF at Dubai International Airport (DXB) last year. This development also marks further progress in the growth of our global SAF supply network. We continue to work with forward-thinking players across the aviation industry, like Emirates and London Heathrow, to explore opportunities to make SAF available in more locations around the world. There is increasing momentum across aviation in the use and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) book and claim platforms. As the industry looks towards wider adoption of #SAF in book and claim chain of custody, credibility surrounding Greenhouse Gas (GHG) data will be key. Avelia, our SAF book and claim solution, has received independent verification from external auditor LRQA which proves the accuracy of Avelia’s SAF carbon accounting methodology and its environmental attributes allocation. Check out the below video for more on how we’ve worked with our partners to put information transparency at the heart of Avelia. https://lnkd.in/e_3ZKqYb #Avelia #Blockchain #BookandClaim Cautionary Note: https://lnkd.in/gi_wDYdR
