Half way there! The world's largest reflecting #telescope, the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), is due to see its first light in 2028. It will help make it possible to find and map Earth-like planets orbiting other stars for the first time. 🌟 The telescope is a partner project which uses measuring technology from ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions and ZEISS Spectroscopy to inspect the 949 mirror substrates manufactured by SCHOTT for the 39 m main mirror. When Pramod, a ZEISS service specialist for microscopes in Bangalore, India, took his then ten-year-old son to the ZEISS Medical Experience Center, he had no idea that it would change both of them. 💡 Inspired by his son's curiosity and enthusiasm, Pramod set himself the goal of getting young people into STEM subjects. 🔬 When the international ZEISS Corporate Volunteer Program #aheartforSCIENCE was launched, Pramod seized the opportunity to give school students the same hands-on experience as his son. Weighing 12 metric tons and with more than 40,000 parts, the projection optics for High-NA-EUV #lithography from ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology have a volume and weight seven times greater than the established EUV projection optics. This ensures the high-precision focusing of the light in the wafer scanner. From 2025 onward, ZEISS will enable the semiconductor industry to realize microchips with three times more transistors compared to microchips produced using current EUV lithography and thus support Moore’s Law beyond 2030. 🚘🧠💻 #ZEISS #Digitalization #HighNAEUV
