EARLY SEASON CROP UPDATE 🌱 Rob Laurie, Lead Agronomist at Yakima Chief Ranches is here to provide the first crop update of the season. This time of year is considered to be one of the busiest seasons for our farms (in addition to harvest season), due to the level of labor and preparatory work involved. Crews have been busy twining, irrigating, stringing, and fertilizing to get the fields in tip-top shape, and we are now in the growing season! It takes many hands to make each crop possible with every twine being hand-tied and every hop bine hand-trained up the string. Oregon and Idaho water availability is looking solid. Washington is experiencing a lower water supply. Pest and disease levels like powdery mildew remain manageable but will be closely monitored as we experience warmer temperatures which can increase these pressures on the crop. We will continue to keep you updated on the development of the 2024 crop throughout the season. Stay tuned for more field reports!
