The 2-in-1 dream is alive! Don't buy a tablet! Don't buy a laptop! A 2-in-1 can do it all! Well — the dream is alive for HP, at least. For Microsoft? Maybe not so much. https://lnkd.in/gbhixFzH #consumertech #microsoft #hp

Look at this thing! Gorgeous, isn’t it? I was pleasantly surprised by the Philips Evnia 8000. I expected the OLED panel to look good, but I was also pleased by the connectivity, menu system, and build quality. https://lnkd.in/gXAvHise

It's interesting how there's a nearly zero percent chance my next phone isn't an iPhone. This level of loyalty isn't remotely close to true for any other device I use.

I think it's been far too long without nuclear as a serious part of the conversation for tackling climate change. It generates incredible energy from very little raw material, and the waste is also minimal enough that it can be tracked and stored responsibility, instead of thrown willy-nilly into the environment. Wind and solar are excellent as well, but given how devastating a problem climate change will become, it seems wise to have as many possible solutions in development as possible. https://lnkd.in/gwKkKKeQ

Qualcomm Snapdragon X is good, but...don't buy it for PC games. Yes, even if you play that one game that's really old and should be easy to handle. There's still a lot of work to do on that end in compatibility, stability, and performance. I suppose you could just stream games, but given the pricing of Copilot+ PCs that feels less than ideal. How gaming plays out is going to be really critical, too, to gauge how Snapdragon X is sustained over the coming year. https://lnkd.in/gW2dcdDS

Another step towards detecting AI video… “…the method operates on the hypothesis that reconstructed images generated by diffusion models should closely resemble each other because they are sampled from the diffusion process distribution. If there are significant alterations, the original video is likely human-generated. If not, it is likely AI-generated.” I'm interested how this method compares to approaches like Binoculars, which I wrote about earlier this year. I haven't taken a deep dive on this so I'm not entirely clear on the details. Still, it's promising to see research into AI detection continues at a speedy. pace. https://lnkd.in/gYp5CVXv

For PC World I took a look at Xiaomi's widescreen gaming monitor. It's yet another 34-inch VA panel that's a fantastic option for people who want good image quality and a big screen on a tight budget. Hard to beat monitors like this at $300 and under. https://lnkd.in/gKFdKQj8

Windows' budget laptops are in trouble - a problem Acer's Aspire 3 demonstrates. Here's the deal. $500 doesn't go as far as it used to, so Windows laptops in that price range are increasingly uncompetitive with those priced slightly higher (in the $600 to $800 range). Will the Aspire 3 basic laptop stuff? Sure.... Barely. https://lnkd.in/gTRtRBY7

3moI'm still rocking the Intel 8th gen model DT supplied me years ago. It's not quite as fancy as this, but it convinced me a laptop didn't have to be terrible to type on.
