Position Summary

At this inflection point in its growth, AMPP seeks an inaugural, strategic-minded, and entrepreneurial Director of Sales & Business Development to drive transformative revenue growth, to professionalize sales operations, and to build a robust, high performing team. The ideal candidate will be data-driven and a natural relationship builder who will serve in a dual capacity as a dedicated sales function leader and a “player-coach” to our sales and business development staff. The new Director will employ a seasoned hand and high emotional intelligence to shepherd the organization by providing laser-like clarity around sales goal setting and tracking, cultivating and nurturing new and existing client relationships, and establishing strong collaboration across Product, Education, and Global Operations teams.

Reporting to the Chief Officer of Workforce Development, Advocacy and Communications, this role will immediately oversee one direct report, but be charged with the responsibility to be an individual contributor and build a department of business development professionals who can deliver on achieving revenue goals. The successful candidate will be comfortable spearheading a department that has yet to be perfectly defined with a positive and can-do attitude and professionalize systems and structures within the organization to enable successful growth.

Key Responsibilities

Drive Sales & Business Development Performance - Individual Contributor

  • Achieve revenue targets by forging relationships with clients that may be capable of referring potential members, subcontractors, vendors or consultants to AMPP
  • Convey AMPP’s mission and services authentically and publicly to new and existing clients to find new growth opportunities.
  • Represent AMPP at tradeshows, conferences, events, etc., as aligned with business development strategy.

Sales Strategy

  • Develop and implement an actionable sales strategy with a clear definition of necessary roles and playbooks.
  • Create, implement, and maintain BD/Sales "playbooks" that include guidelines, processes, and best practices to be applied across the function, enhancing sales performance and efficiency across global markets.
  • Review and analyze sales and operational records and reports; use data to project sales, determine profitability and targets, and work with market leaders to identify potential new markets/strategies.
  • Consult with market teams, product teams, and user experience teams to understand a holistic picture of customer/member needs; collaborate to identify and suggest equipment, products, or services that will meet those needs.

Team Development

  • Define talent needs to deliver on the sales strategy and ensure that all selling roles across the enterprise contribute effectively in achieving revenue goals.
  • Partner with additional relevant stakeholders (e.g., HR, finance, markets) to ensure Sales talent has access to the tools and resources needed to successfully execute market strategies.
  • Develop a sales incentive program (commission plan) to motivate and reward.

Desired Qualifications

The Director of Sales & Business development will strategically identify opportunities for expanding client base domestically and internationally. This leader will demonstrate growth capabilities while also ensuring that the organization’s structures and systems are built to support that growth. A track record of demonstrable sales achievements, coupled with the capacity to collaborate with diverse stakeholders toward a shared goal, will be crucial.

Skills

While it’s understood that no single candidate will bring every single competency, strong candidates will offer the following skills, characteristics, and experiences:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in business development and sales leadership and management, with a proven track record of success in a player-coach capacity.
  • Experience selling to and developing relationships with engineering and government specifiers is recommended
  • Prior technical knowledge or experience working in oil and gas, energy, maritime, bridges, water, waste, chemicals, pipeline, transportation, or other related industries is beneficial
  • Proven functional BD/Sales expertise with a track record of achieving/exceeding sales targets
  • Strong experience in people development, with the ability to mentor, coach, and build high- performing teams.
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with market leaders, HR, finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing sales strategies, talent acquisition, and development approaches.
  • Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive BD/Sales playbooks that include guidelines, processes, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable plans.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, OR comparable record of sales leadership experience required.
  • Proficient in SalesForce and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Travel is expected for this role (50% travel, including worldwide).

Location

AMPP is headquartered in the US with offices in Houston, TX and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Additional offices are in the U.K., China, Malaysia, Brazil, India, and Saudi Arabia with a training center in Dubai. This is role is available as a full-time remote opportunity, with strong preference for US based remote candidate.

Compensation And Benefits

Salary is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skill set level and years of previous/applicable experience. Salary range for this role is between $150,000- $175,000, with an opportunity to earn commission. AMPP also offers a generous benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, life, disability and other supplemental insurance, as well as 401K matching (4%), and competitive paid time off, and the perk of having every other Fridays off.
