“Our digital product needed to be upgraded to be fully accessible before a set date to conform with clients' and prospects' requirements. The whole project was huge since the product was not built at all with accessibility in mind. Carla was the key team member that helped us get started, kept us on track and trained our developers to make sure that they understood what a fully accessible product should be. She is also a highly skilled frontend dev that can solve complex issues with ease. I can only strongly recommend Carla.”

What do you do if you want to take your web design skills beyond basic HTML and CSS?
- Understand the core principles Fluid Grid System, Fluid Images, Media Queries and Breakpoints - Go mobile first design strategy, trust me it will make your life easier. - Go native CSS Grid and Flexbox if you are building a small app, otherwise use a lightweight css grid that supports your needs and/or create your own design system. - Responsive image: Optimize images, create different size, format, orientation. Learn how to use features like srcset and the <picture> element. - Test and if possible including using real devices. I would recommend bootstrap only if no budget allowance or maybe building a quick prototype

Set your career goals first, then the tools. Avoid the trap of becoming a "jack of all trades, master of none." - Reusable, modular CSS : SASS - Accessibility: use Axe, WAVE and ANDI - JS/React- Learn vanilla JS thoroughly, then explore frameworks like React - Version Control: github with sourceTrree - IDE: VS code is a robust code editor, with a myriad of extensions - Embrace tooling: Webpack or Vite. - AI "Copilot", as complement, not to replace your expertise. You'll need strong communication skills and solid foundation to ask the right question and pick up the mistakes. Do forget your home work: Semantic HTML all the way.

Create a practice project that addresses real needs to attract attention to your work so you can look out for feedback, code review and collaboration as it can teach you new methods to improvements, and other perspectives and techniques that you may not find alone. Be engaged in the community, offer insights, contribute to discussions, this can clear up many misconceptions. Also practice communication on tools like gitHub. Explore issues on project that interest you, try solving the basic ones on your own, try creating a pull request. Leaning how to communicate effectively in a collaborative environment sharpens your skills.

Thanks for the opportunity to talk about the elephant in the room "Accessibility". It's a crucial yet often an overlooked skill. Ignoring it overlooks a diverse range, extending beyond typical impairments like visual, hearing, to include aging populations, temporary injuries, or situational constraints. "Usability", also matters, ensuring web solutions are intuitive and efficient for all. It's way more than following guidelines or improving UX for some, it's about embracing human diversity creating inclusive and accessible digital experiences for all.
