Celebrating Disability Pride Month: Jules Edwards' Journey In honor of Disability Pride Month, MPR News highlights Jules Edwards, an Anishinaabe autistic author and disability justice advocate. Her journey into advocacy began when her children were diagnosed as autistic, leading to her own discovery of being on the spectrum. Edwards has been a tireless advocate, addressing the disproportionate lack of resources for Native people with disabilities. Her commitment has led her to serve on the boards of the @Minnesota Office of Ombudsperson for American Indian Families and the Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network. Her advocacy focuses on holistic autism services that encompass mind, body, and spirit, and aims to bridge the gap between autistic advocates and parents of autistic children. Edwards’ work is a testament to the power of community, representation, and inclusive support.
