We recently hosted our third annual HBCU Career Combine, welcoming 17 students from all 13 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) schools to our Baltimore Headquarters for an immersive leadership and career development experience. In her latest post, our Sr. Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Ashley Brown shares more about our commitment to sourcing talent from HBCUs and details from this year's combine.
In 2020, Under Armour committed to increasing our investment in sourcing talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Working with a cross-functional team, we developed a deeper strategy including a signature event to drive access to careers in sports and provide professional development for the next generation of talent. This aspiration led to the Under Armour HBCU Career Combine, fueled by my team’s unwavering commitment to providing an authentic experience. We hosted our first virtual Combine three years ago and envisioned scaling it to a live event. We recently turned that vision into reality! We hosted some of the brightest students from our UA-sponsored HBCUs at headquarters in Baltimore. They immersed themselves in our business, developed career readiness skills, and applied their learning to a case competition. These students confidently presented their solutions to over 150 UA teammates, impressing us with their creativity and poise. We crafted a memorable experience filled with knowledge-sharing, connection, and lots of laughter. I am grateful to each student selected for this year’s cohort. You brought joy and energy to our campus, and your future is incredibly bright. I look forward to staying in touch. Thank you to my amazing team - Jeffrey Oguamanam, Crystal Thompson, Aja McNeill, Natalia S. Rodriguez, Lazarus McCray, Julia Morris - and the many UA teammates who invested their time and expertise into this program. Very proud!
