Researchers at the University at Buffalo are working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of complex, potentially devastating diseases like Alzheimer’s through protein mapping, or proteomics. Jun Qu, PhD., the group leader of the Proteomics and Bioanalysis lab, has seen improvements in the speed of his research using the Orbitrap Astral Mass Spectrometer. According to Qu, “If we used traditional biochemical technology, it might take decades to test each protein in a project like this. Here, we take a very small sample, and we can quantify 10,000 proteins in seconds.” Read more about how Qu and his team are helping advance the understanding of diseases and ultimately keep the world healthier using our newest equipment:

Earlier this month, our site in Monza, Italy celebrated the grand opening of our local Training Center & Aseptic Academy. It’s a cutting-edge space that leverages augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) to provide colleagues working across our #Steriles manufacturing capabilities – from operations to quality – with the opportunity to train in both hands-on and simulated Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environments. Thermo Fisher Scientific leaders – including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Michel Lagarde, Drug Product President Simona Fugazza and Vice President and General Manager for Drug Product EU and APAC Alexandre Pasini – attended the event.

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we're committed to supporting researchers in their mission to discover life-changing therapies. Approximately 350 million people worldwide suffer from rare diseases, most of which are genetic, and plasmid DNA plays a key role in the lab where researchers are solving for these diseases. To help accelerate the research and progress of these therapies and bring hope to patients worldwide, we’re excited to introduce the Thermo Scientific KingFisher PlasmidPro, the only fully automated plasmid purification system that aims to help scale and accelerate this vital research. https://lnkd.in/gt8TG4pi

We are celebrating 10 years of #renewableenergy at our site in Cork, Ireland! The site is home to our Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing facility and home to our very own wind turbine, which stands 100 meters tall with 50 meter blades. The turbine has generated more than 75,000 megawatt hours of #electricity – the equivalent of powering approximately 17,000 homes for a year. In 2023 alone, the wind turbine generated 19% of the site’s energy, helping the company make progress toward the goal of reaching net zero emissions. We remain committed to deliver #sustainable energy and reduce our #carbonfootprint. Learn more about this site: https://lnkd.in/gRqrEMid

There are more than 500 gene therapies in the clinical research pipeline, which is driving demand for lab capacity that's dedicated to specialized testing and services to help advance these therapies through the approval and commercialization process. To help address this need, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at our Middleton, Wisconsin site this week to celebrate the opening of new lab space that provides additional analytical testing capacity for our biopharma partners who are developing novel therapies for patients who need them most. Thank you to Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and other local officials who were able to join us at today’s event. https://lnkd.in/gWBbKV6X
