Over a year after NCARB retired the Architect Registration Examination’s (ARE) five-year rolling clock policy, CEO Mike Armstrong discussed its impact on the licensure candidate community at the 2024 Annual Business Meeting. “NCARB is on a journey of consistent, sustainable change, and we’re starting to see the rippling effects of those changes throughout the communities we serve.” . . #NCARB #ARE5 #Architecture

Licensing board members recently elected NCARB’s first-ever at-large directors—Coffee Polk and Kevin Singh—to the organization’s Board of Directors. This is a step in a larger governance structure reform to create new pathways to national leadership. Happy to announce I have completed the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) with National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). This requires completing 3,740 experience hours and throughout the past 5+ years, I have completed those and then some! Thank you so much to everyone for their support throughout this part of my journey. Now on to conquering the last of the licensing exams! #architecture #experience #hardwork #license

At our Annual Business Meeting, licensing board members elected Ken Van Tine, AIA, LEED AP, of Brighton, Michigan, as NCARB's 2024-2025 president. During his tenure, Van Tine will continue to support NCARB’s Pathways to Practice initiative, which aims to increase nontraditional opportunities along the path to licensure, such as more formal recognition for community college programs. It’s an honor to be able to represent the great State of Maryland as chair of the Board of Architects at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Annual Business Meeting in Chicago, alongside my fellow Board Members, including Kevin Sneed, FAIA, FIIDA and Paul D. Edmeades, RA, AIA, NCARB. The Meeting focused on topics such as the impacts and possible regulation of AI in architecture to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public; and how to increase access to the profession by continuing to lower artificial barriers to entry while maintaining standards and rigor.

Your hard work has paid off! Congratulations, Jade. 👏
Now that it’s official, I’m thrilled to share that I have successfully passed all 6 divisions of the NCARB Architect Registration Exams! This achievement holds immense significance for me since architecture became my second career choice. The journey of returning to school and starting afresh as an intern was transformative, leading me to this pivotal moment. I take pride in being a positive role model for other young black women aspiring to join our industry. We are few but we are stong. Happy Juneteenth! ✊🏾 National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) #blackarchitects #womenarchitects #noma #chicagoarchitects

Over the weekend, NCARB's member licensing boards voted to update two of its Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs), expanding access to the MRAs and allowing more architects to pursue international licensure. These changes are part of NCARB’s ongoing efforts to reduce unnecessary barriers—including extended time requirements and limited paths to licensure and reciprocity—and instead increase opportunities toward licensure. The 1 year celebration of my appointment to the Georgia Board of Architects and Interior Designers was celebrated at my first National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Annual Business Meeting! First time as a Member Board Member, but still working. Happy to have attended alongside my board President Anne Smith and VP Melissa Cantrell, AIA, LEED AP, giving me the intel needed to succeed. Luckily, I had the chance to also connect with some of my The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and National Organization of Minority Architects families as well since I missed out on A'24. An all-star roster of folks with their hands on the profession of architecture. Congratulations to the newly elected Board Members! #architecture #architect #design #ncarb #georgia #noma
