The National Composites Centre is delighted to see the publication of the Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan (IGP) that we have been collaborating on with the Wind community. It’s fantastic to see a clear plan that captures the opportunity of boosting energy security, growing the economy by £25bn, and anchoring 10k UK jobs by industrialising key areas of #offshorewind. As the UK’s Centre of Excellence for Composites R&D, we firmly believe the UK has the potential to become a global powerhouse for the design and manufacture of composite blades and innovative composite turbine towers. Together with our partners at RenewableUK and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult we’ll be convening government, industry and academia to help ensure the UK has world leading innovation ecosystems to accelerate industrialisation in #composite turbine blade manufacturing. It’s exciting to see the call to commercialise composite turbine towers born out of NCC Energy, demonstrated in the Joule Challenge. This world leading innovation offers savings in the cost of energy, embodied carbon, and significant weight savings for future offshore turbines. Our composite innovations are being designed to reduce embodied carbon and be fully recyclable through our industry leading insights generated from the SusWind programme. Delivering the IGP will position the UK as a world class leader in offshore wind and aligns with NCC’s vision to industrialise critical technologies to deliver the energy transition for the UK. If you’re interested in being part of the Wind ecosystem and accelerating the energy transition, contact energy@nccuk.com https://lnkd.in/dqzFCUVQ

Great to be collaborating with Lucideon to address ceramic matrix composites adoption challenges from fundamental materials development through to full system design and validation. The #partnership is set to deliver a greater #impact in developing #CMC capability and adoption in the UK. ⤵
Earlier this week, Lucideon hosted a meeting of the National Composites Centre’s Ceramic-Matrix Composites (CMC) Working Group at our facility in Stone, Staffordshire. Co-ordinated by Enya Collier and Dr David King, the hybrid event was a huge success, with the session followed by lunch and a tour of The AMRICC Centre, the co-located Centre of Excellence for Advanced Ceramics. The event follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations last year, leading to opportunities for collaborations that offer end-to-end capability for developing and exploiting supply chain organisations’ technologies and addressing CMC adoption challenges from fundamental materials development through to full system design and validation. Many thanks to all involved at both Lucideon and the NCC for bringing this event to life.
