Fifteen months in and finally got to my first offshore wind farm, visiting Flotation Energy's Kincardine. Located 15 km off the coast of Aberdeen, and in waters ranging from 60 to 80m deep, the largest floating offshore wind farm in the world is capable of powering nearly 35,000 homes in Scotland. Huge thanks to the Flotation Energy team and vessel crew who made it all happen. lovely to spend the day with the inimitable Ophelia Maxwell too!! RenewableUK #offshorewind #floatingoffshorewind

⚡ In case you missed it, RenewableUK released data from EnergyPulse at Global Offshore Wind last month showing the world has reached 75GW of offshore wind capacity this year ! 🌍 Although the industry is a global one, the UK has played, and will continue to play a huge role in this growth - boasting the second largest capacity 🥈and building the first 🥇 gigawatt scale offshore wind farms. 🕘 The timeline below charts the innovations in policy and technology that got us there. Open up the video below in full screen, sound on 🔊 and look back at how far we've come Thanks to our Global Offshore Wind event partners who helped us put this timeline together - Equinor, Ørsted, SSE Renewables, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, Vestas and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. What will the next few years hold for the wind sector?

Despite there being over 12GW of renewable energy projects able to enter the AR6 auction this year, with many projects carried over from 2023, the current budget set by the Secretary of State means that only a fraction of these projects will be able to receive investment. The budget for AR6 therefore needs to be uplifted to maximise investment in these shovel-ready projects, ensuring confidence is restored and benefits are unlocked. A greater volume of contracts awarded means more investment in offshore wind, onshore wind and solar projects, resulting in lower bills for consumers and greater energy security, whilst ensuring supply chains strengthen and grow, creating high-quality and well-paid jobs that are distributed across the whole country. 📰 https://lnkd.in/eFyAJnyZ #RenewableEnergy #OnshoreWind #OffshoreWind #CleanEnergy
