During #Pride Season, properties around the CALA region participated in parades in Costa Rica and Panama. Karol Hernández, Sustainability Manager and Founder of the Diversity Committee, Costa Rica Marriott Hacienda Belén, and Los Suenos Marriott Ocen & Golf Resort, attended and helped to support the Costa Rica parade. Karol, along with 60 volunteers, dedicated over 588 hours of volunteerism to helping prepare for Pride, including planning and building the float that participated in the Parade. "The float, themed as the Kingdom of Dreams, symbolized Marriott as a place where everyone is welcome and dreams come true. It represented our commitment to providing open and safe spaces for all of our guests and associates, promoting a message of peace and understanding." For Karol, Marriott's participation in the Pride parade speaks to Marriott's commitment to putting associates first: "Following the brand value of putting people first, our Marriott hotels seek to promote the rights, value, and responsibility for each one of our associates both on the property as well as outside; this is what makes Marriott a leader in inclusion and diversity, both in Costa Rica and internationally." #PrideMonth #Pride #beginbelongbecome #beyou #marriottcareers

As part of our #Pride celebrations, we are excited to show how our associates worldwide celebrate Pride. Meet Karan, Executive Sous Chef at W Toronto, who participated in the Toronto Pride Parade last weekend. Karan said, "It is a fabulous feeling to be surrounded by so much love and acceptance as you march down Yonge St. in the parade. It is always a humbling experience to celebrate who we are and honor the struggles of the people before us." At Marriott, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all associates feel recognized and supported, and events like Pride demonstrate this commitment. Colton left sunny Florida to join Marriott's Voyage Program. After just a year, he became a Room Operations Voyager at the W Boston, where he helped the hotel become one of the main sponsors of the Boston Pride Parade. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, he was determined to bring Marriott's presence back to the parade. “As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it was important to me to reignite this tradition and make a meaningful impact during my Voyage program,” says Colton. His team member Katie — who worked as an Event Planner Voyager, shared his enthusiasm, and together, they threw themselves into arranging the hotel’s involvement in the Boston Pride Parade again.
