It's World Pride Month....and sorry adding a rainbow to your product is not Allyship - it's marketing. While it's wonderful to see rainbows everywhere, it's important to remember that true allyship goes beyond adding a rainbow to your product or website. Allyship means: ❤️ Listening and Learning: Taking the time to understand the experiences and challenges of the LGBTQ+ community. 💜 Supporting and Empowering: Amplifying LGBTQ+ voices, supporting LGBTQ+ businesses, and advocating for equal rights. 💙 Creating Inclusive Environments: Ensuring your workplace and products are genuinely inclusive and safe for everyone, not just during Pride Month but all year round. 💛 Taking Action: Donating to LGBTQ+ causes, participating in events, and pushing for policies that support the community. Adding a rainbow to your product can be a symbol of support, but without meaningful action, it risks being seen as just another marketing tactic. To my fellow social media managers: Pride month has started, and I want to encourage you all to approach this time with authenticity and purpose, not just profit. Far too often, brands treat Pride as a mere marketing opportunity, slapping rainbows on our logos and pushing product sales without truly supporting the LGBTQ+ community. This is not only hurtful to the queer community but can actively damage trust and credibility. Instead, I challenge us to use our platforms to amplify LGBTQ+ voices, highlight essential causes, and show up as true allies - not just during June but year-round. Donate portions of profits to LGBTQ+ organisations, collaborate with queer creators, and use your reach to educate and inspire. Pride is about celebrating hard-won rights and uplifting marginalised identities. This June, I reread an article I wrote last year. Unfortunately, we’ve seen MORE legislative harm and attacks on the LGBTQ+ community over the passing year. It reminded me that the structures we create (in any environment) produce behaviors that serve that structure. As business leaders, we must be very intentional about the structures we create. Are we promoting inclusivity and acceptance? Or are we creating an environment that allows for or excuses exclusivity? The private sector can be a powerful channel to demonstrate what we stand for and demand when legislation fails us. 🏳️🌈 https://lnkd.in/eCTpyYvz

A time to celebrate with, advocate for, listen to and show absolute support of our wonderfully diverse LGBTI+ communities and reflect on how we can all be the change we want to see in the world. We've taken some decent strides towards equality in recent years. That being said, we still live in a world where Faith-based schools can LEGALLY expel and sack LGBTQ students and teachers respectively; where elite sportspeople in major codes don't feel safe being 'out'; and where sickening violence and displays of hatred can still bubble to the surface as they did just a few short months ago in Melbourne and Sydney... there is still a very long way for us to go. It is great to see all the progressive organisations here on LinkedIn making pride pledges, implementing inclusion programs, rainbowing their logos, encouraging the use of gender neutral language and respecting each other's pronouns. Descrimination in (almost...) all its forms is illegal...hopefully the Attorney General's review of Faith-based schools will bear fruit... but laws are the effect, not the cause of social change. The cause can start with a simple little thing like rainbowing your logo, engaging in a conversation and making your employees and colleagues feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work. #diversityequityandinclusion #prideatwork #prideisnotjustforamonth
