What does it mean to design in the time of robots? For design directors Danny DeRuntz (IDEO) and Nathan Hass (Upstatement), the technological advancements of the last few years are hard to ignore — and they’re also raising questions about the part technology plays in creative roles. The two recently met for the first time to chat about how they’re using AI, balancing hype and realism when it comes to emerging technology, and why human creativity is still vital to great storytelling. Read the full article below and watch this space for more stories about how the kyu Collective is utilizing AI to its fullest potential. https://lnkd.in/eKCwZk-X #AI #Design #Creativity

Wednesday, June 26 was the UK’s hottest day of 2024 so far. Perfect timing for the kyu House pop-up for London Climate Action Week! Last week, kyu Collective companies including IDEO, Lexington, Gehl - Making Cities for People, and others hosted dynamic sessions that connected attendees and inspired them to create real, impactful change in the climate and health spaces. Want to know more about what you missed? 🌍 “What would a healthcare system look like if you kept human and planetary health in balance?” asked IDEO’s Sergio Fregoni and Matthew Higham. IDEO created a board game to help participants explore what the world could look like in 2044. 🏥 How can patients drive climate-positive outcomes? Lexington directors Felicity Haslehurst and Alison Woodhouse unveiled research driving home how vital patient engagement truly is. Health shouldn’t be siloed but considered by every government department and across all policies. 💡 Where can we be more impactful in the climate x health space? Gehl - Making Cities for People’s Jeff Risom and Rebecca Morley talked air quality activism and the importance of positive messaging. “Children think they can die from climate change,” said Morley. “We should also talk about the solutions. Later in the week, SYPartners partnered with Elevation Barn to bring together an evening of elevating impact at Home House, and ATÖLYE x Metabolic, hosted a session spotlighting actionable, investable strategies to mobilize the critical funding necessary for a sustainable future. Ultimately, when tackling massive, global issues, one of the ways we can learn and relate to each other is through the art of play — and we certainly had plenty of fun at this iteration of kyu House. 🗓️ What’s coming up next for kyu House? Day 3 of #C2MTL24 ended on a high note! We expanded our minds with insightful AI sessions from member companies Sid Lee, BEworks, and SYLVAIN and left this year’s C2MTL feeling inspired. Learn more about the kyu Collective at http://kyu.com and check out our Day 3 insights below 👇🏻 ✨ Sid Lee started the morning by asking us to reframe our perspective on AI and consider “atypical intelligence.” A panel of creative visionaries showed us why expanding our definition of intelligence is so valuable — and why it’s most important to lead with empathy when fostering neurodiversity. 🧠 BEworks CEO Wardah M. brought us a mind-blowing conversation on the future (and present) of neurotech. Jared Genser (General Counsel, The Neurorights Foundation) shared the “thought-to-text” and medical breakthroughs that will be possible in the next five years. Privacy concerns abound but, he argued, ”Neurotechnologies are going to be extraordinarily productive for society and for the world." 🤖 When it comes to AI, are we worrying about the right things? Neil Patel (NP Digital) pointed out that while AI will certainly replace some jobs, we may spend more time thinking about strategy and concept. Hugging Face’s Dr. Sasha Luccioni reminded us generative AI shouldn’t be used for everything and dropped the truth bomb that, “there’s a huge gender imbalance in AI…consent is rarely on the table.” 🤔Aaron L. Powers (SYLVAIN) and The New Yorker’s Andrew Marantz talked doomers and tech enthusiasts and drew parallels between dealing with AI and the atomic bomb. Still, there's plenty of hope to be found in our AI-filled future. “I allow myself to turn off the fear for a moment and say, what do I want to build, go and ride that wave…that’s the heart of creative work,” said Powers. As we bid adieu to #C2MTL24, we’re leaving the Grand Quay with new ways of thinking and exciting connections, all made possible by our member company, C2. Au revoir until 2025!

Day 2 of #C2MTL24 by C2 is a wrap and we went deep on “Sustainability + Innovation.” Check out the coolest things we saw and heard today: 🗣️ We went back to language basics with sound artist David Drury's immersive lab 👗 Nuha Siddiqui (erthos®) and Eric Liedtke(UNLESS Collective) showed us what the future of fashion could look like if we focus on regenerative fashion. “You have to be a great storyteller and have the unit economics,” argued Liedtake. “We want to design the right material for the right supply chain,” said Siddiqui on the production side. 🍝 Nüense taught us how lasagna can help us understand the value of championing neurodiversity. 🌿 Clyde Higgs (Atlanta BeltLine): “The days of thinking of green space in isolation are gone…you have to think of adjacent opportunities for your communities.” ☀️ Director Guy Reid on the idea of “a bright future” being linked to our solar future: “The solar future is meant to be a future where our nervous systems start to relax." We’re already counting down the hours until tomorrow’s panels from BEworks, Sid Lee, and SYLVAIN.
