“People always ask me why I want to be a nurse. I want to be a nurse so that I can be good to people. I want to make a difference.” – Camilla Inzerilli, RN. Nurses share an unwavering commitment to caring for their patients and supporting each other. That’s why we invest in the 99,000 nurses across HCA Healthcare – like Camilla – by offering resources, development and education to support them in their day-to-day work. Camilla’s unique journey with HCA Healthcare began in 1991 when she was born at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. She spent her childhood walking the hallways of that same hospital, admiring the dedication of two special members of its workforce – her father and mother. And, she celebrated her 21st birthday by joining the HCA Florida Brandon Hospital as a unit secretary. Inspired by the dedication of the nurses around her, Camilla decided to pursue a career in nursing. Camilla received support with higher education expenses through HCA Healthcare’s tuition reimbursement program and participated in our Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN) program, which allows new graduates to obtain acute care nursing experience through an intensive paid internship. Camilla became a registered nurse in October 2023 and began serving patients on the same unit where her mom worked before her retirement. Please join us in congratulating Camilla on the start of her rewarding nursing career with HCA Healthcare. If you’ve ever been inside one of HCA Healthcare’s comprehensive children’s hospitals, you’ve probably heard the ringing of a bell and sounds of excitement. To our small and mighty pediatric oncology patients, the bell’s sound is a celebration of their last day of cancer treatment. The ringing signals triumph for families who’ve supported their loved ones throughout their cancer journeys. For other cancer patients, the bell’s sound inspires hope that one day, they might be able to ring that same bell, too. At 9 years old, pediatric oncology patient Alaina recently had the opportunity to ring the bell at HCA Healthcare’s Memorial Health following her last cancer treatment. Our dedicated pediatric cancer specialists are committed to providing leading-edge treatment for infants, children and adolescents with all types of pediatric cancers and blood disorders. Alaina was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, and was cared for at the Savannah, Georgia hospital. You may remember Alaina’s infectious smile when we shared her story in the fall of 2023 after she met the The Savannah Bananas exhibition baseball team during a special hospital visit. Just as a family does, we pull together to care for, support and celebrate our patients. Please join us in celebrating Alaina and her family in this important milestone of her cancer journey! #CareLikeFamily

“I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t shake,” HCA Healthcare patient Roy Narunsky shared. “I struggle with simple things like pouring a cup of coffee and writing is next to impossible.” As a teenager, Roy was diagnosed with essential tremor (ET), a neurological disorder that causes involuntary and rhythmic shaking. In its advanced stages, essential tremor can disrupt an individual’s ability to perform basic daily activities such as eating, drinking and getting dressed. Roy’s father lived his entire life with essential tremor and until recently, Roy believed he would do the same. At 55 years old, Roy recently underwent MRI-guided focused ultrasound treatment for his essential tremor at UCF Lake Nona Hospital. The Orlando, Florida hospital was the first hospital in Central Florida to offer non-invasive brain surgery to treat essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease. The innovative, scalpel-free therapy directs targeted sound wave energy deep into the brain, treating the tissue that causes a tremor. There is no surgical incision or anesthesia required and many patients experience immediate improvement. “Dr. Razack and everyone here [at UCF Lake Nona Hospital] has been so wonderful,” Roy said. “This is a beautiful hospital and we were grateful to find you. I’m really looking forward to not being frustrated any longer by the things I can’t do.” We extend our gratitude to the highly skilled care teams across HCA Healthcare who strive to give patients, like Roy, healthier tomorrows. When it comes to creating environments that make a positive impact on patient care, strategic capital improvements are key. HCA Healthcare’s investment in capital improvements topped $4.2 billion in 2022 for major projects, infrastructure, IT and smaller hospital-level investments, and topped more than $4.7 billion in 2023. Future plans include investing more than $5 billion in 2024. In the past year, no fewer than 120 major construction projects were completed. Improvements included multiple tower expansions, a rehabilitation service line addition at HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital, a freestanding behavioral health hospital at Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness in Ladson, South Carolina and the reopening of Forest Park acute care program at Methodist Hospital Landmark in San Antonio, Texas. HCA Healthcare’s department of Care Transformation and Innovation (CT&I) works to improve healthcare delivery through the clinically led integration of technology into care. The CT&I team works directly with clinicians to identify opportunities and innovative ideas while testing, measuring and sharing solutions across the enterprise. Today, we’re continuing our “Meet the Innovators” blog series, profiling the leaders and frontline change agents working in and with HCA Healthcare’s CT&I team. Jessica Woods BSN, RN, C-EFM, serves as a labor and delivery manager at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center. As a CT&I Innovation Hub, the Hendersonville, Tennessee hospital is at the forefront of efforts to improve healthcare technology and provides a living environment for care process design and testing. Jessica is working alongside the CT&I team by leveraging technology to test solutions to support labor and delivery clinicians in their quest to improve maternal safety. “The beautiful part of innovative work is that it’s challenging and uncomfortable but rewarding at the same time,” said Jessica. “Innovation may change programs and processes you’ve always known, but it is about making our work better, faster and more intuitive, allowing us more time with patients and families to positively impact their lives and leave them better than we found them.” On “HCA Healthcare Today,” learn how Jessica is shaping maternal care solutions of the future: https://bit.ly/4eJypO1 #HCANursing #CareTransformation

Today, HCA Healthcare’s South Atlantic Division proudly announced that we will give $650,000 to Savannah State University (SSU) to support a paid internship program for students pursuing a master’s degree in social work. This gift is part of HCA Healthcare’s larger commitment to give $10 million over three years to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). Founded in 1890, SSU is the first public HBCU in Georgia and the first higher education institution in Savannah, Georgia. Funds from this gift will go towards paid internships for two Master of Social Work cohorts over four years that will help students complete the required 900 clinical hours needed for their degree at HCA Healthcare affiliate hospital Memorial Health. Through the cohort, students can access job shadowing opportunities and mentors throughout HCA Healthcare. “We’re proud to be partnering with SSU to offer opportunities for students to find fulfilling careers in healthcare and social work,” said Sherri Neal, chief diversity officer of HCA Healthcare. “Memorial Health University Medical Center has developed a strong relationship with the university and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on the community.” On “HCA Healthcare Today,” learn more about how we are investing in and supporting future leaders in Georgia and across the country ➡️ https://bit.ly/3zr0DwN. #UnlockPossibilities #PositiveImpact
