"From the most challenging of origins, a disease steeped in stigma and discrimination has pioneered HIV care systems that have life-changing benefits across diverse communities and countries. Continued investment in HIV must be seen not as a competing health priority, but as central to the goal of universal health coverage." Check out this latest blog from FCAA Board Member Anne Aslett and Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria's Chris Collins on how the #HIV response has strengthened #globalhealth, and need for continued investment.
The HIV response has not only made history, but it has had a profound impact on global health, well beyond the confines of one disease. Read our latest blog to discover how the HIV response continues to help us to test and treat other diseases and health issues globally. 🖊 Anne Aslett, CEO of Elton John AIDS Foundation 🖊Chris Collins, President and CEO of Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria 👉 https://lnkd.in/gdpK2AkU

#AIDS2024 Workshop Alert - Decolonizing HIV funding: Unlocking equitable resources for community-led organizations HIV funding, like philanthropy and development assistance more broadly, is rooted in histories of colonialism that perpetuate racism and put decision-making power in the hands of those who have benefited most from colonialism and capitalism. The status quo of funding prevents communities from breaking out of short-term, project-based strategies for leading the HIV response. Join facilitator and FCAA Executive Director Masen Davis to explore methods to unlock equitable funding for community-led organizations through concrete changes to private, public and multilateral funding. 🗓 Date and Time: Wed, 24 July; 14:30 – 16:30 📍 Hybrid event: Room 14c/Channel 10 https://lnkd.in/gjwATsdT This workshop was created in partnership by FCAA and the Stephen Lewis Foundation and will feature UHAI EASHRI, Aidsfonds, The Global Fund-fund, Red Umbrella Fund, Avert and #MWEDO #HIV #funding #communityled #putpeoplefirst

During Pride Month, we celebrate the indelible impact of the LGBTQ+ community on our movement – and the tireless work of our members to drive HIV-related philanthropy that supports all LGBTQ+ people. We know the work is not done. Prevalence rates of HIV are 14 times higher among transgender people and 11 times higher among gay men and other men who have sex with men than the general population, and rising anti-rights rhetoric is threatening the health and safety of LGBTQ+ communities worldwide. In our forthcoming annual resource tracking report, we highlight where we’re making progress and where we have further to go: - LGBTQ+ communities received $91 million, or 14% of all HIV-related philanthropy, in 2022. - 81% of all HIV-related philanthropic funding globally for LGBTQ+ communities comes from FCAA members. - The top funders of LGBTQ+ communities include FCAA members Gilead Sciences, ViiV Healthcare, Elton John AIDS Foundation, and UHAI EASHRI - Nearly three-quarters of all HIV-related philanthropic funding for LGBTQ+ communities went to U.S.-based grantees. Watch for the launch of the full resource tracking report next month, and consider how your own philanthropic organization can step up for the LGBTQ+ community by taking action on HIV. #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #HIV

Today, FCAA Executive Director Masen Davis served as an NGO observer at the UNAIDS PCB meeting and provided an intervention on important gaps we must still address in the HIV movement. Here's just an excerpt: "At FCAA, we firmly believe we can end AIDS as a global health threat in our lifetimes, but we will never achieve this while criminalizing or marginalizing those most at risk for HIV. We urge donor governments and private donors alike to renew their commitment to ending AIDS, including protecting human rights of priority and key populations and ensuring equitable access to healthcare. We call on all member states and donors to invest the political and financial capital needed to sustain the global HIV response—both now and in the future. "

“Sex workers tend to be canaries in the coal mine for different policy rollouts that affect marginalized folks.” —Melodie Garcia, Co-Director, New Moon Network As one of FCAA’s newest members, intermediary funder New Moon Network working to advance sex workers’ rights in the U.S. by channeling resources and capacity-building support into community-led organizations. For New Moon’s leadership team, who come from movement work, tapping into funder networks like FCAA has been critical to learn “how to tackle the beast that is philanthropy.” Co-director Melodie G. recently sat down with us to talk about why sex workers’ rights are a “linchpin issue” and what intermediaries and philanthropic organizations can learn from each other. Please join us July 9 for this important conversation: Responding to Project 2025’s Threats to Science, Rights and Resources Tuesday, July 9, 2024 8 AM - 9:30 AM central More info/register: https://lnkd.in/gcn4Dxi7 Description: Project 2025 is part of an ongoing multi-pronged backlash to the sexual and reproductive health, gender and LGBTQ+ movements. It is likely the national game plan of a Trump administration should he win the US presidential election in November. This has serious implications for both domestic and foreign policies and programs for our communities and beyond. Building on the experience of the HIV movement in fighting these same far-right forces, this webinar will discuss potential responses through the lens of HIV affected communities and programs. #project2025 #thechoiceagenda #webinar #humanrights #reproductivehealth #gender #hiv #domesticpolicy #foreignpolicy AVAC Anne-christine d'Adesky Sean Cahill Will E.
