The depot's aircraft maintenance professionals perform phased depot maintenance, planned maintenance intervals, integrated maintenance concepts, modernizations, conversions, overhaul or in-service repair on the AV-8B and TAV-8B Harriers, the MV-22 and CV-22 Osprey, the AH-1Z Viper, the Air Force UH-1N Huey, the UH-1Y Venom, the CH-53E Super Stallion, and MH-53E Sea Dragon, the F/A-18A-D Hornet, the F/A-18E-F Super Hornet, the F-35A/B/C Lightning II, the H-60 Seahawk; and the C-130 Hercules. The depot is also the depot repair point for the drive and rotary systems of the MQ-8B Fire Scout. The depot overhauls, assembles and tests a number of aircraft engines, including the F402 (AV- and TAV-8B), the T400 (UH-1N), the T64 (CH-53E, and MH-53E), and the T58-400B (in support of the Presidential VH-3D Sea King). The depot is also establishing capability on the F-35B Lift System, T408 (H-53K) King Stallion, RQ-21 Blackjack, and T700 (CT7-8A6) in support of the Presidential VH-92A. FRCE has the capability to repair nearly 20,000 distinct aircraft components, ranging from the repair of intricate circuit cards and instruments to the overhaul and testing of main gearboxes. This support covers nearly 200 types, models, and series of aircraft. FRCE also provides worldwide aeronautical engineering, logistics, and program management support in both the maintenance and design fields, and works side-by-side with FRCE production artisans developing and refining overhaul, repair, test and troubleshooting procedures. Engineers and logisticians at FRCE support all vertical lift aircraft for the Navy and the Marine Corps, as well as the C-130, the RQ-21 and selected components. The command's customers include all Navy and Marine Corps aviation activities, 30 foreign nations, five Air Force activities, three Army activities, and two federal agencies.

FLYBY FRIDAY This week, we take a look inside the Fleet Readiness Center East Dynamic Flight Control and Landing Gear Shop. This shop performs maintenance on components for all the aircraft serviced by FRCE except for the F-35 Lightning II. The work performed inside this shop plays an important role in maintaining the integrity of aircraft landing gear and keeping our service members safe during air transportation. #servicetothefleet #aviationmaintenance #militaryaviation

FRCE ADOPTS NEW SYSTEM TO IMPROVE AIRCRAFT PAINT PROCESS A new capability at Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) is streamlining the aircraft painting process, allowing the depot to decrease maintenance turnaround time and return aircraft to the fleet faster than ever before. The Fleet Support Team’s Materials and Processes Branch and Digital Data Center are working together to improve the final finish process within the depot’s Aircraft Paint Shop with the adoption of a laser projection system. The system acts as a guide for the precise placement of markings and insignia by projecting their outlines onto the aircraft. According to Steven Lofy, senior materials engineer for the Materials Branch’s Corrosion and Wear Team, the system has bolstered the depot’s capabilities by decreasing turnaround time and labor hours and producing a reliable and repeatable aircraft paint process, all while offering artisans ergonomic and safety benefits. “It takes an extensive amount of time and labor to mask aircraft for the application of major markings and insignia during the final finish process,” said Lofy. “It’s a demanding process based on old, paper drawings that can be difficult to read, making it challenging for our artisans to mask the exact areas on each aircraft consistently. The laser projection system makes the process much more precise and reliable when masking and applying stencils to an aircraft, while also saving a significant amount of time. “With the laser projection system, we can simply come in, turn on the projectors and actually project where each marking should be on the aircraft,” Lofy continued. “All we have to do from there is line each stencil up, mask and paint.” You can read more at https://lnkd.in/exymxSTR Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Commander Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) #servicetothefleet #militaryaviation #COMFRC #NAVAIR

FLYBY FRIDAY! The Fleet Readiness Center East Production Support Shop is vital for maintaining smooth, efficient and safe operations at the depot. The Production Support Shop is one of the first to get their hands on arriving aircraft as they are responsible for processing in-service repairs. While processing aircraft, the shop removes any fuel and other military equipment typically carried by an aircraft for operational purposes. Removing these items prior to maintenance is essential for maintaining a safe work environment. After processing, the shop skillfully transports the aircraft to and from hangars during their time at the depot. #aviationmaintenance #servicetothefleet

GLOBAL TRANSPARK BREAKS GROUND ON FACILITY SLATED FOR INCOMING FRCE WORKLOAD Leaders and stakeholders from Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) and the North Carolina Global TransPark gathered at the Kinston facility June 25 to celebrate breaking ground for a new aviation maintenance complex set to house the depot’s incoming military aircraft workload. Groundwork on the 75-acre site began in April to prepare the area for new construction. When complete, the multi-structure, purpose-built facility will provide more than 700,000 square feet of space planned to support FRCE’s work on the Navy and Marine Corps C/KC-130J Super Hercules and C/KC-130T Hercules and Air Force HH-60W Jolly Green II. FRCE Commanding Officer Capt. James M. Belmont said the groundbreaking represents years of preparation and determination by dozens of stakeholders within the Navy, the Global TransPark and the state of North Carolina. “It’s so gratifying to see years of planning and effort come to fruition at this moment,” he said. “Bringing this new workload into FRC East will allow our team to continue supporting the nation’s warfighters well into the future by doing what we do best: providing our military aviators with the best quality products, delivered on time and at the best cost. “Through this service to the Fleet, we’ll be able to directly impact mission readiness and results, and we’re proud to shoulder this responsibility,” Belmont continued. “But we wouldn’t be standing here today without the hard work of key players across the Navy and our partnership with the state of North Carolina, and it’s important that we recognize that.” You can read more at https://lnkd.in/ga7uzUaw Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Commander Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region
