#NAWCAD at #RIMPAC2024 | Our US Navy engineers are at this year's Rim of the Pacific exercise testing logistics-focused unmanned prototypes with fleet users in an operationally relevant environment. The #USNavy is eyeing autonomous systems for delivery of things like medical supplies, maintenance tools and parts, and more – a mission typically flown by manned aircraft which can be expensive and takes aircrew away from other important missions. “Due to the high costs associated with manned flight operations and the lack of manned asset availability, a significant number of naval operations are delayed while waiting for critical supplies,” said Edward Gesser, an engineer with our logistics UAS experimentation team. #NAWCADians flew prototypes alongside industry partners aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54). More from Wilbur's Commanding Officer Cmdr. Yilei Liu on the experiment in this Navy Times article: https://lnkd.in/gaN8UH_Q (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Jesse Monford)

July 3rd marked one year since I moved across the country to Maryland and started working for Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD). I spent the first eight months working for the Electro Optics and Special Mission Sensors division. In this position, I learned how to model infrared signatures, how to create and monitor budgets for the lab, and gained experience with collaborating with different PMA offices. Additionally, I joined the Professional Development Council’s Tours and Brown Bags committee where I have had the opportunities to organize and attend tours across both NAS Patuxent River and NAS WOLF. In October I became the Vice Chair of the PDC Media committee where we created videos and slideshows capturing what ESDPs do inside and outside of the office. In February I began my year long rotation with Ship and Air Integrated Warfare. In this position, I am an On-Site Installation Coordinator where I provide government oversight for installations and modifications aboard aircraft carriers. Since starting my rotation I have had the opportunity to travel to Norfolk, VA where I have gotten to work on CVN-77, CVN-74, and CVN-78. I have learned how to read Ship Installation Drawings, how to coordinate between contractors, ships force and the shipyards, and learned about different welding procedures and electrical processes. I have learned so much this past year and I cannot wait to see what the next year has in store!

✨You're looking at the magic that powers #NAWCAD's #JointSimulationEnvironment, the #DOD's premier digital test and training range where defense tactical pilots train for wartime flight scenarios in fifth generation fighter simulators. 💻Software developers from across the #DOD recently gathered to discuss taking the #JSE to the next level at a planning event where US Navy and United States Air Force partners discussed advancements for the JSE's suite of software that makes it tick. 🕹️The enhancements will be developed, tested, and delivered by NAWCAD in the future. #AroundtheCommand #CiviliansBehindSailors #NavytheNationNeeds

What a genius application of AI, would have been so useful for me in the tower and the Handler down in flight deck control. The Handler and all the flight deck Sailors are the hardest working people I’ve ever met, in the most complex environment I’ve ever seen. I’m excited that there are ways to make their jobs easier and safer.
