Sustainable Energy Solutions: Providing waste heat recovery to electricity solutions using best in class ORC technology.

About us

ElectraTherm by BITZER Group provides waste heat recovery solutions utilizing the organic Rankine cycle along with proprietary technologies to convert low-temperature heat (as low as 70°C) into power (up to 125 kW). ElectraTherm’s simple and effective solutions generate clean electricity, boost efficiency, reduce energy costs, and decrease emissions – with no additional fuel consumption. The combined advantage of ElectraTherm’s engineering along with being supported by BITZER, the world’s largest independent manufacturer of refrigeration compressors which boasts close to 3,500 global employees and average annual sales approaching $1 billion, allows the ElectraTherm team to continue developing industry-leading waste heat recovery technology that is good for business and the planet. ElectraTherm’s Power+ Generator is a heat to power system, converting waste heat into clean electricity and usable thermal (up to 85°C) while also offsetting the cooling load. The Active Cooler acts as a net-zero cooling to power system, using the same cycle to provide a zero power consumption cooling solution that generates electricity as an additional benefit. The Active Cooler is a next generation, highly efficient cooling solution. Both of ElectraTherm’s solutions reduce emissions and energy costs while providing a baseload power / cooling supply. Taking advantage of waste heat is not only profitable, but practical. Allowing companies to benefit from a more circular economy while achieving sustainability goals.

Onsite #wasteheat recovery of exhaust heat from #pyrolysis machines dual benefits: 1. Reduces the operations #carbonfootprint via #scope2 reductions 2. Increases the quantity and quality of #cdr credits from #biochar

CO2 Removal and Carbon Tax Will the UK be following Denmark's lead in CO2 tax and assisting carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technology? (Looks like a tax and also an incentive.) All the renewable technologies play a role in reducing emissions, removing and locking up Carbon is also required. If considering new heating or energy plant, think longer term and consider the alternatives to fossil fuelled systems. Consider waste streams as feedstocks. CFE work with a variety of low carbon technologies to best suit individual business needs. The Gov. greenhouse gas emission (GHG) factors have been published annually for years, therefore it is straight forward to calculate and contrast different processes and fuels for individual sites. When multiplied by the Danish figure of 100Euros/T as an example, the business case for any form of CO2 emission reduction looks good.

Good news for #biochar developers. Generating #cleanpower from the #wasteheat from such equipment is a great idea as well.

Big news --> TITLE V PERMITTING UPDATED! On April 17th, EPA removed a massive barrier to entry for the place based biochar market seeking to utilize Air Curtain systems like the AirBurners CharBoss and the TigerCat Carbonator. This is very important to the biochar industry as these types of mobile, multi-functional, place-based biochar systems have the ability to scale rapidly. They are an excellent entry point into the biochar industry for composters, land owners, clean C&D waste disposal facilities, municipalities and many more sectors. Not to mention the disaster cleanup opportunities to convert hazardous fuels to biochar for durable carbon benefit after an event. We anticipate removal of the burdensome pricing of permitting for these systems we will result in rapid adoption as they now qualify for carbon credits. Additionally, these systems can be paired with thermal heat capture to generate electricity on-site. There are significant IRA tax incentives available through the end of calendar year 2024 that makes adoption of this technology extremely attractive. (UPCOMING WEBINARS) The important highlights: - EPA believes removing title V permitting requirements for ACIs "will simplify compliance and reduce administrative cost burden for owners and operators of these types of units." - Rule states "If you are the owner or operator of an air curtain incinerator that burns only wood waste, clean lumber, and yard waste...you are exempt from the obligation to obtain a title V operating permit." - For decades, Air Curtain Incinerators (ACI) have been subject to financially burdensome Title V permitting. USBI has been involved w tests where Title V permitting cost $40,000 for a single day demonstration permit! Ouch! - The EPA received supportive comments from States & industry stakeholders to remove title V permitting requirements for these air curtain incinerators, indicating the requirements were unnecessarily burdensome & expensive. (We know that Air Burners Inc spent years advocating for ACI system & a key reason this rule has been updated.) - State & industry stakeholders commented that the title V requirements for these units are overly burdensome & costly, particularly in light of the dependence on ACI units to mitigate natural disaster debris, such as massive amounts of clean wood & vegetative waste for wildfire mitigation & forest management; burning of storm-generated wood & vegetative debris; & burning of land clearing debris. - EPA concludes "the title V permit requirement for ACIs that only burn wood waste, clean lumber, and yard waste is inconsistent with the definition of 'solid waste incineration unit' in CAA section 129(g)(1)." 🇨🇦 💪 Canada’s answer to 45Q: the CCUS Investment Tax Credit (#ITC) 💪 🇨🇦 💵 Aiming to compete with its Southern neighbour, Canada has allocated $3.1 billion over the first five years (with a projected extension to around $7.6 billion up to 2030) to scale carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) as part of its Carbon Management Strategy. 👏 Unlike 45Q, the CCUS ITC supports companies with CAPEX, more precisely equipment purchases (estimated 30% of CAPEX). This is a huge advantage, as it provides companies with incentives prior to conducting the carbon removal activity itself. The tax credit rates are as follows (2022-2030 and 2031-2040 respectively): 💨 Direct Air Capture Storage (DACS) equipment investment: 60% and 30% 🏗️ Other CCUS Projects: 50% and 25% 🚛Transportation, Storage, and Utilization: 37.5% and 18.75% 🔙 The ITC will be available retroactively for eligible expenses incurred from 2022 onwards for CCUS capital expenses with the aim of permanent CO2 storage through two primary methods: dedicated geological storage or storage in concrete. Eligibility criteria include: 📦 Geological Storage: Available in jurisdictions with adequate regulatory frameworks (initially only Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia). 🧱Concrete Storage: Requires a process where at least 60% of CO2 is mineralized and stored permanently in concrete, verified by third-party ISO standards. ⚡ Dual-Use Equipment: Eligibility extended to include equipment used for heat, power, or water, integral to the CCUS process, with tax support prorated accordingly. ➡ The CCUS ITC is yet another example of smart policy incentives to scale CDR. The focus on CAPEX in particular is crucial given the stage the industry is at. Such a shame that it only applies to a subset of CDR technologies, just like 45Q in the U.S. More tech-neutral approaches will be needed in future, but this is a great start and has some real teeth! For those interested into digging deeper, I recommend following Carbon Removal Canada and their Executive Director Na'im Merchant, who are leading the way on Canadian CDR policy. Also a shout-out to Phil De Luna, who first made me aware of this tax credit on the Carbonsations podcast (linked in comments). ❓ What are your thoughts? Will this drive CDR investments to Canada? #carbonremoval #Canada #climatepolicy
