We support DSF Scholars as they transition from high school to college, ensuring they know all the resources and opportunities available to them here at CCD and with DSF. Many students walk through our door feeling lost, overwhelmed, excited, or nervous. We're here to guide and support them, ensuring they are ready to excel in their college journey. 💜🎉

  • Join us in celebrating a wonderful school year for TJ's Spartans! We are Alyssa and Emily, DSF's College Advisors at Thomas Jefferson High School. This was our first year together in the DSF Future Center at TJ, and we are thrilled by the support we were able to give our students. Though our halls are empty over the summer, we continue working to ensure we're ready to welcome new and returning students to our DSF Future Center this fall! 💛🎉

  • While summer break is here, DSF College Advisors like Federico Rangel are staying active! This past school year has been challenging for students across the United States due to changes in the financial aid application process but we are so grateful for the ongoing support from DSF College Advisors. As the next few months can lead to "summer melt," we want to remind everyone that we are here to help. Thank you, Chalkbeat, for covering this impactful story and highlighting DSF's College Advisor at West High School, Federico. https://lnkd.in/gHHQZZas

  • In Colorado, Juneteenth celebrations have been held for years. However, Governor Jared Polis officially signed Senate Bill 139 on May 2, 2022, designating Juneteenth as an official state holiday. Today, the staff at DSF has the day off in honor of Juneteenth. Dating back to 1863, during the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared more than three million enslaved people in the Confederate states to be free. However, it was not until Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, that African Americans in Texas finally learned that slavery had been abolished. The following year, on June 19, the first official Juneteenth celebrations took place in Texas. Within a few years, states across the United States were also celebrating the day, making it an annual tradition. Celebrations have continued into the 21st century, typically including prayer and religious services, speeches, educational events, family gatherings, and festivals with music, food, and dancing. We encourage our community to learn more about the meaning behind today's celebrations, traditions, and festivities. Visit Juneteenth.com to learn more!

  • As we begin June, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community within DSF and around the world. Here in the city of Denver, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pride celebrations! While we embrace Pride, we also acknowledge the ongoing efforts needed to secure equal rights, justice, and equity for all. 🧡

  • Last weekend, DSF collaborated with Denver Public Schools and Auraria partners, University of Colorado Denver, Community College of Denver, and Metropolitan State University of Denver to host the DPS and DSF Explore Auraria Campus event which brought together 57 students and family members! The college-going process involves the ENTIRE family and we are so excited that DPS students from 9th-12th grades came onto the Auraria campus to participate in sessions such as college 101, financial aid 101, hear from a panel of current DSF Scholars and students from the Auraria campus, and participated in a resource fair. 👏🏼
