Interesting research taking place by a team from NYU! Details below for anyone who may be a fit to participate in a study about racial encounters in the Asian American community.
Workplace Mental Health Research Associate & Lead Japan Strategy Analyst @ Columbia University Irving Medical Center
We need your help! A research team led by Dr. Lisa Suzuki, Department Vice Chair and Associate Professor of Applied Psychology at New York University, is seeking participants for a groundbreaking study on the emotional impact of racial discrimination on Asian Americans. The study closes on 7/31/24. Our study is an evaluation of the work of Dr. Robert Carter, Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Education at Columbia University. We are specifically examining the emotional impact of racial encounters and how racial discrimination affects Asian Americans in terms of psychological and emotional reactions. This research is approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and funded by NYU. Participants will be asked to complete a short demographic survey and a series of scales focusing on encounters of racial discrimination, perceived stress, racial identity, and mental health status. We understand that there is an investment of time required but we ask for your support given the current racial dynamics in our country and more specifically how the pandemic has impacted racial incidents targeting Asian Americans. Participation is voluntary, and there are no consequences for choosing not to participate or withdrawing from the study. If interested, please click the link below to access the survey: https://lnkd.in/eJ5PqPmW -Research Team- Lisa Suzuki, Ph.D. Kyoko Toyama, Ph.D. Taymy Caso, Ph.D. Haruka Kokaze Ahad Asad Aysegul Yucel #empirical #research #asianamerican #race #stress #trauma #mentalhealth

Just last month, Committee of 100 and The Asian American Foundation launched the AAPI Hate Tracker—an online database created to help report and track incidents of hate and bias towards the AANHPI community in New York City. Today, we are proud to announce that New Yorkers can now make reports in 11 different languages: Bangla/Bengali, Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional), English, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Punjabi, Tagalog/Filipino, Urdu, and Vietnamese. TAAF’s Asian American Perspectives: NYC Safety Study released earlier this year found that only 46% of Asian Americans who had experienced a hate incident had reported the experience to anyone at all. Of those that did not report, 7% cited language barrier as a reason. By expanding the language offerings of the AAPI Hate Tracker, we hope to narrow the gap between experiences and reporting in hate incident data as well as the gap between survivors and much-needed assistance and resources.
