Supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

About us

CCARC was originally founded in 1952 by a group of parents who gathered in their homes to support one another as they faced the challenges and rewards of raising a child with Down Syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Today, CCARC is a private, nonprofit organization offering an array of services to support adults with intellectual disabilities and their families. VISION: We exist to enhance the lives of people with IDD and their families and give them a safe place to call home within their community. MISSION: We are a recognized industry leader with an unwavering commitment to growing individual and person-centered services and opportunities by expanding partnerships and educating the community about people with IDD. VALUE STATEMENTS: Care: At the core, our organization is based on person-centered services delivered through practical programs and nurturing support. Compassion: We believe in respecting human dignity and that all people deserve opportunities to make the most of their lives. Individuals: We know that every human being is unique, and we offer services that are tailored on a continuum of providing basic needs all the way through the fulfillment of dreams. Respect: We recognize the inherent value in all human beings. We strive to treat our constituency and staff with dignity in all ways and believe that people have the right to choose their place in the world. Community: We build strong collaborations through relationships with families, community providers, community leaders, staff, board, and participants.

Reba, Conor, Jordan, Joshua, and Weller, the pioneers of our Project SEARCH internship program, have successfully graduated this year! They are the first to complete our program with The Hospital of Central CT at Hartford HealthCare. Their journey was filled with extensive training, hands-on experience, and the creation of a robust professional network, all of which paved the way for them to build meaningful careers in their chosen fields. "The growth of the interns and all that they have accomplished with the support of HOCC and CCARC is amazing," says Zacchaeus Jackson, Project SEARCH Manager at CCARC. We are deeply grateful to The Hospital of Central CT for their instrumental role in this partnership, providing individuals with IDD with this immersive employment experience. Together, we are shaping a more inclusive workforce and offering a more meaningful life for people with IDD. As we celebrate the success of Reba, Conor, Jordan, Joshua, and Weller, we eagerly anticipate the next chapter of their journey and the arrival of the next group of interns, filled with potential and promise.

We want to thank everyone who helped with this significant event, including the Mayor of Berlin, Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., our sponsors, volunteers, players, donors, and Timberlin Golf Course. Celebrating Our Exceptional Team at CCARC! 🌟   At CCARC, we're constantly inspired by the dedication and compassion of our incredible team. Recently, the Plainville home team, led by amazing staff members like Apree, Jazz, and Brianna, demonstrated extraordinary care that truly highlights the heart of what we stand for at CCARC.   Their unwavering commitment and keen instincts not only showcase their professionalism but also exemplify their deep concern for our residents' well-being. Without hesitation, they advocated persistently for a resident's health concerns, even when it seemed like everything was normal from the outside to the Doctors.   Their vigilance and genuine care for the individual went above and beyond. Thanks to their efforts, the necessary attention was given, leading to identifying and addressing a critical health issue promptly. The impact of their dedication potentially saved a life.   To Apree, Jazz, Brianna, and the entire team at Plainville, your dedication doesn’t just shine through—it inspires. Your tireless advocacy and commitment to our residents' welfare embody the spirit of true caregiving.   Words fall short in expressing the immense gratitude felt by the family, our team, and myself at CCARC. Your unwavering dedication and actions represent the best in our profession.   We take immense pride in having such exceptional people as part of our team. Thank you for your extraordinary efforts; you make us proud every single day.   🙌 Let's give a huge round of applause to these remarkable caregivers! 🙌
