- Alternatively, if your phone is already set up for dark mode, you can choose the system option.
This article explains how to get dark mode back in the Facebook app. Instructions apply to iOS and Android.
How to Get Dark Mode Back in the Facebook App
An outdated app is the most common reason you can't turn on dark mode for Facebook. Follow these steps to get it back:
These screenshots were made from an Android device, but the steps are the same for iPhone.
-
Close Facebook by swiping it off the screen.
-
Update the app. This works similarly on both platforms: Android [Update Android Apps] and iOS [Update iPhone Apps].
-
Open Facebook and tap the menu button (your profile picture).
-
Go to Settings & privacy > Dark mode.
-
Tap On to switch Facebook to dark mode.
Tap the system option from this screen to make Facebook match whatever mode your phone is in. For example, if you've turned on dark mode for Android, this will make Facebook dark, too.
Why Is Facebook Dark Mode Not Working?
The Facebook app has its own version of dark mode in addition to an option to respect the current system settings. If it isn't working, there are a few possible causes:
- You're using an old version of the app.
- The app has glitched.
- The dark mode toggle is switched off.
- Dark mode matches your system settings, which aren't set to dark mode.
