How to Configure Parental Controls in Google Chrome

Use Google's Family Link app to restrict browsing behavior

  • Open the Family Link app. Select View on a child's profile. Tap Manage > Filters on Google Chrome, select web browsing settings.
  • Tap Filters on Google Chrome > Manage sites, choose Approved or Blocked. Tap Add a Website, enter it, and select Save.
  • Tap Filters on Google Chrome > Chrome Dashboard. Turn Permissions for sites and apps on or off.

Manage Your Child's Browsing on Chrome

After setting up a Google Family Link account, you can use the app to manage the websites children can visit on Chrome, limit their ability to grant permissions to websites, and block or allow specific sites. Children signed in to their Google Account can't use incognito mode.

  1. Open the Family Link app.

  2. Select View on your child's profile.

  3. On the Settings card, tap Manage.

  4. Tap Filters on Google Chrome.

  5. Choose the setting you want to apply:

    • Allow all sites: Your child can visit all sites unless you block any.
    • Try to block mature sites: Hides most explicit and sites. 
    • Only allow certain sites: Your child can only visit sites you allow.
  6. Tap Manage sites if you want to allow or block certain sites manually.

Block or Allow a Site on Chrome

You can allow access to specific websites or block others. Your child can ask for permission to visit blocked sites, and the Family Link app notifies you so that you can approve or deny their request.

  1. Open the Family Link app.

  2. Select your child.

  3. On the Settings card, tap Manage.

  5. Tap Manage sites and then choose Approved or Blocked.

  6. Tap Add a Website and then enter the website you want to approve or block.

Change Website Permission Settings

Parental controls include choosing whether your child can give site permissions to websites they visit, such as location, camera, and notifications.

  1. Open the Family Link app.

  2. Select the child.

  3. On the Settings card, tap Manage.
