The Fourth of July was a chaotic scene for some Sacramento County deputies as they dealt with a large group of minors who were tossing fireworks and other incendiary weapons toward traffic, including a deputy, the sheriff's office said.The interaction, which the sheriff's office said was livestreamed and posted online by multiple people, happened along Heartland Drive near Tetotom Park around 9 p.m. The group of minors was tossing mortars and Molotov cocktails toward incoming traffic in the area. When deputies got to where the group was, the sheriff's office said most of the minors tried running away. Deputies detained several of them, one having a handgun, which led to their arrest.At some point during the interaction, one of the minors detonated a mortar under an unmarked sheriff's vehicle, the sheriff's office said. No deputies were harmed from that explosion.The sheriff's office did not release details on how many people were detained, but deputies are still searching for someone who fired a mortar.Fireworks, many illegal, in general, caused trouble for many first responder agencies as several fires started from fireworks being launched near combustible materials.
