EXTENDED FORECAST IN A BIT. ALL RIGHT HEATHER, THANKS. WE’LL BE BACK WITH YOU FIRST THOUGH. FIREFIGHTERS ARE BRACING FOR ANOTHER BUSY NIGHT AFTER THIS. THEIR MESSAGE IS CLEAR RIGHT NOW. DO NOT SHOOT OFF ILLEGAL FIREWORKS. AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU’RE SEEING THERE. THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF CALLS THROUGHOUT OUR REGION NOW IN THE PAST 24 HOURS, FIRST RESPONDERS HAVE JUST BASICALLY RUSHED FROM CALL TO CALL, PUTTING OUT FIRES. AND THEY’VE ALSO BEEN WRITING CITATIONS AS KCRA 3’S DENEEKA HILL EXPLAINS, SOME PEOPLE MAY FACE CONSEQUENCES IN THE DAYS AHEAD FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THEIR HOMES LAST NIGHT. LAST NIGHT WAS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. ALL ACROSS THE REGION, ILLEGAL FIREWORKS LIGHTING UP THE SKY, A LOT OF ILLEGAL FIREWORK ACTIVITY. EVERYONE COULD SEE IT IN THE SKIES. WE HAD MULTIPLE OF OUR FIRE PREVENTION OFFICERS OUT TRYING TO ISSUE CITATIONS FOR THESE SACRAMENTO CITY FIRE SAYS THEY RESPONDED TO OVER 430 CALLS JUST LAST NIGHT, BECAUSE WHAT GOES UP OBVIOUSLY MUST COME DOWN IN THESE HOT EMBERS THAT ARE STILL ATTACHED TO THESE FIREWORKS THAT ARE COMING DOWN FROM THE SKY. THEY GO INTO A DRIED FIELD, OR THEY GO ON SOMEONE’S ROOFTOP AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE A GRASS FIRE OR YOU HAVE A STRUCTURE FIRE, 46 CITATIONS GIVEN OUT WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS IN THE 24 HOURS SPAN. WE’RE PHOTOGRAPHING THEM, TAKING VIDEO, MARKING DOWN THE ADDRESS. AND IF IT IS YOUR HOUSE, EVEN IF IT’S NOT YOU SETTING THEM OFF, YOU WILL BE CITED ACROSS THE COUNTY. IT’S UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE WE PREACH TIME AND TIME AGAIN. PLEASE DON’T USE ILLEGAL FIREWORKS. PLEASE DON’T PUT ANYTHING UP IN THE AIR THAT’S GOING TO SUSPEND AND CAUSE EMBERS AND SPARKS TO COME DOWN. ILLEGAL FIREWORKS WEREN’T THE ONLY CHALLENGE FOR SACRAMENTO METRO FIRE CREWS, SO WE HAD CALLS RANGING FROM WILDFIRES TO OUR NORMAL MEDICAL AIDS TO STRUCTURE FIRES AND BUILDINGS BURNING. UH, AND THAT WAS BECAUSE WE HAD SO MANY ISSUES AGAINST US. WE HAD THE HEAT, WE HAD THE DRY VEGETATION, AND WE’VE GOT PEOPLE LIGHTING OFF INCENDIARY DEVICES IN THEIR FRONT PORCHES. DISPATCH BUILDING MORE THAN 2500 CALLS LAST NIGHT. AND WE’RE GOING TO SEE THAT THROUGH THE WEEKEND AS WE CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE EXTREME HEAT. UH, OUR FUELS ARE CONTINUING TO DRY UP AND CONTINUING TO BE PRIMED TO BURN JUST TAKES ONE SMALL SPARK. BOTH AGENCIES CONTINUING THEIR EFFORTS THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. WE’RE PHOTOGRAPHING THEM, TAKING VIDEO MARKING DOWN THE ADDRESS. AND IF IT IS YOUR HOUSE, EVEN IF IT’S NOT YOU SETTING THEM OFF, YOU WILL BE CITED. AND FOR COMPARISON, SAC METRO FIRE SAYS THEY RESPONDED TO 400 MORE CALLS THAN THEY DID LAST YEAR, AND IN WOODLAN THEY SAY WHILE THE NUMBER OF CALLS WERE DOWN, THEY GAVE OUT MORE THAN TRIPLE THE NUMBER OF CITATIONS THAN THEY DID THE YEARS BEFORE. HERE IN SACRAMENTO, DENEEKA HILL KCRA THREE NEWS AND IN ADDITION TO SACRAMENTO COUNTY, MANY OTHER AGENCIES ALSO ISSUED CITATIONS. LODI POLICE SAY THAT NINE CITATIONS WERE GIVEN OUT AND SEVERAL POUNDS OF ILLEGAL FIREWORKS WERE TAKEN AND WOODLAN POLICE HANDED OUT 34 CITATIONS TOTALING MORE THAN $110,000, AND STOCKTON FIRE SAYS THAT THEY RECEIVED 356 CALLS, ARE STILL WORKIN
