Get to know our Team - Meet Leo Browning 💙 Leo was ClimateAligned’s first engineering hire, building out our core LLM/AI/ML capability, and ensuring that the data enrichment and transformation, and automation that power our product are of the highest quality. From a PhD in Physics at Victoria University of Wellington, to working on the data and #ML at an e-sports startup through acquisition means Leo is as comfortable sinking deep into the research as he is moving fast to explore new product opportunities. Get to know our Team - Meet Prashant 💙 Prashant Lonikar joined ClimateAligned as our first team member, starting our journey by building our data capabilities from scratch. He plays a crucial role in integrating tech and business, transforming customer needs into product features and data insights. Prashant brings a unique mix of experiences: a sustainability background from green bond research at Climate Bonds Initiative, plus a tech edge from his master's in business analytics at Imperial College London. He is an electrical engineer by training and aims to use his career to develop sustainable products for the future. Outside of work, Prashant enjoys playing tennis and is learning Chinese (很高兴认识你们!). As the UK prepares for Thursday's general election, we're happy to see the latest from UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI) on Green #FinTech 2.0. ClimateAligned are featured in the landscape of green fintech analytics companies alongside our friends & fellow portfolio companies Climate X (Pale blue dot) & Kita (Climate VC). The landmark report finds strong conditions in the UK for further growth in green fintech, with tailwinds from technological leaps in data collection, processing & modelling, favourable regulations & growing funding: 99 of the companies identified have already received a combined £623M of venture capital. 🌿 Tomorrow, June 22nd, is World Rainforest Day! 🌍 This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the crucial role rainforests play in sustaining life on Earth, including their immense capacity to absorb CO2 and regulate our climate. 🌳 In 2024, 8% of the total green bond USD amount issued is directed towards land-use related projects. However, only 11% of this is specifically allocated to forests, which equates to less than 1% of the overall green bond issuance in 2024. 💼The packaging sector leads the charge in forest project financing, contributing over a third of the funds. Interestingly, the heavy involvement of banks and the chemical industry suggests a growing recognition of the financial risks associated with deforestation and climate change. 🔍 Nearly all (almost 100%) of the funds within forest-related allocations are being used for commercial forestry and agroforestry. Unfortunately, other essential projects like natural forest maintenance, afforestation, and REDD+ have not seen significant green bond issuance this year. 📌 This disparity in funding allocation highlights a critical need for increased investment in diverse forest conservation and management projects.
