Gam Gam Ganesha Movie Review : A promising crime comedy that falls short on execution

Critic's Rating: 2.0/5
Story: Gam Gam Ganesha weaves together two parallel narratives. The first centres on Ganesh (Anand Deverakonda), a petty thief, while the second focuses on Kishore Reddy (Raj Arjun), a politician. After Ganesh's girlfriend leaves him, he becomes determined to achieve wealth at any cost and devises a plan for a diamond heist worth Rs. 7 crores. Simultaneously, Kishore Reddy urgently requires 100 crores transported from Mumbai to secure his election victory. Both characters are somehow connected to a Ganesh idol, and the plot unfolds around their efforts to acquire the money.

Review: Gam Gam Ganesh, directed by Uday Shetty and featuring Anand Deverakonda, Pragati Srivastava, Raj Arjun, Nayan Sarika, Emmanuel, and Chaitanya Krishna, aims to present a crime comedy but falls into the trap of a routine robbery plot, clichéd romance, and predictable action sequences.

Anand Deverakonda, riding high from his performance in Baby, is introduced with a power-packed scene that initially boosts audience expectations but ultimately fails to sustain them. Despite this, he successfully adopts a new persona with commendable comedic timing. His character stands out by deviating from the typical Telugu cinema hero trope of effortlessly defeating villains to impress a girl. Emmanuel shines as Anand’s friend, providing genuine entertainment. The humorous exchanges between the duo as they manage to pull off a diamond robbery with the help of Arun Sutharia (Prince Yawar) elicit laughs, despite the otherwise conventional and underwhelming storyline.

Two other key performances that drive the film are Kishore Reddy (Raj) and Rudra (Krishna), who excel in their villainous roles. The movie features numerous character actors in minor roles, with Vennela Kishore as Organ David standing out for his comedic impact. The lead actresses, Sarika and Pragati, play Anand's love interests and manage to catch the audience's attention with their glamour and performances, despite having very limited screen time.

Uday, also the writer of the film, attempts to present the film as an over-the-top, wacky crime comedy but falls short due to a lack of gripping narration and screenplay. The story weaves various threads that converge on the theme of greed. Chaitan Bharadwaj’s songs and background score complement the genre effectively. Aditya Javvadi’s cinematography beautifully captures the rustic landscapes of Rayalaseema, with detailed scenes that highlight the film’s essence. Additionally, the film boasts high production values, resulting in a polished and visually engaging cinematic experience.

Gam Gam Ganesha falls short of fully delivering as a comedy or providing enough thrills to keep the audience engaged until the end. The first half merely stretches the story, but the interval introduces some engaging comedy and a meaningful twist. Although the twists are initially impressive and pique the audience's interest, they ultimately lead to disappointment.
