"Whatever the future holds... we'll be ready. And you know the best thing about the future? It hasn't happened yet."
―Cassie Webb[src]

Cassandra Webb is a paraplegic blind woman, and former New York City Fire Department paramedic. After a near-death experience triggered her clairvoyant powers, Webb was forced to use her new abilities to protect Julia Cornwall, Mattie Franklin and Anya Corazón from Ezekiel Sims. After saving the girls, she lost her sight and became a paraplegic. This helped her control and increase her powers, now known as Madame Web.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Birth[]

Whilst in the womb, Cassie Webb was diagnosed with a myasthenia gravis, an incurable genetic neuromuscular disease. Her mother, Constance Webb, sought to use the healing properties of a species of spiders native to Peru. In the final weeks of her pregnancy, Constance Webb traveled to Peru in order to capture a specimen of the spider. Whilst conducting this research, a man named Ezekiel Sims provided Constance with protection, however, once she had captured one of the native spiders, Sims killed the research team and stole the spider, during which a struggled ensued and Sims accidentally shot Constance. As Sims fled and Constance was left to die, a tribe of spider-people known as "Las Arañas" descended from the trees and retrieved her dying body. Their leader, Santiago, used the venom from native spiders in an attempt to preserve the lives of Cassie and her mother; the spider venom saved Cassie and cured her neuromuscular disease, but her mother died in childbirth. At some point, Cassie left Peru and was returned to the United States.[1]

Childhood[]

Cassie grew up in the foster system, during which she was placed in a number of foster family programs; according to Cassie, “some of them were worse than others”. Growing up in the foster care system deprived Cassie of stability and security in childhood, and as a result she grew up resenting her mother; believing she took unnecessary risks whilst pregnant, that ultimately got her killed. [1]

Joining the FDNY[]

Cassie qualified as a paramedic, and began working for the New York City Fire Department, where she would meet and befriend her co-worker, Ben Parker, as well as O'Neil.[1]
