Congrats on winning the prestigious scientific competition.
Congrats to our team 1. Rebecca Meissner (Universität Innsbruck) 2. Michael Gatchell (Stockholm University) 3. Yevhen F. (KAUST PSE) 4. Enrique Rozas Garcia (University of Gothenburg) 5. Jose David Bermudez Perez (Universidad del Rosario) 6. Nicola Cerutti, PhD (Oasis Loss Modelling Framework Ltd.) 7. José Mejía (Universidad de Los Andes) 8. David Paulovics (Université Côte d'Azur) 9. Philine van Vliet #ÉcoleNormaleSupérieure 10. Brian Njoroge (Allen Institute) 11. Johannes Postler (Txture | Cloud Transformation Software) on being selected as the one of three winners of the #Sciathon competition! Rethinking energy-efficiency in software can bring us closer to reduction of global power consumption and even minor 1% gain in efficiency has a significant impact. Thanks to Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and Christoph Schumacher for promoting the environment to meet, work together across 7 countries (Austria, Colombia, France, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, the UK, and USA), and, in just 48 hours, present our thoughts and ideas on solving the problem. Our team will pitch the project on July 1st at the Sciathon Forum during 73rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. It is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness, promote sustainable coding, and receive feedback from the esteemed panel including Nobel Laureates. It's an honour to have won the Kaust's Seeds Award! I am excited to announce that I have been bestowed with Kaust graduate affairs' most prestigious award of the year, The Kaust Seed Award. This award symbolizes the remarkable impact and contribution made to student life in all aspects at Kaust both academically and non-academically. Throughout my time in various educational institutions, serving the student body has always been a deeply fulfilling endeavor for me. When I arrived at KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology), this sense of purpose remained unchanged. To me, it is a means of giving back to the community that has shaped me. I vividly recall the moment when I witnessed Saidkhodzha Nematulloev receive this prestigious award last year. In that instant, I wholeheartedly acknowledged that he was truly deserving of such recognition. And now, one year later, words can not fully express my gratitude and thrill after receiving such a distinguishing award. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the students, faculties especially my PI Prof William Roberts, my GPC Linda Sapolu, and esteemed friends who nominated and supported me unconditionally. Thanks to Dr Todd Pietruszka's leadership and his team for this great initiative. Without all of their unwavering support, this would not have been possible. This award is not solely mine to cherish, but a testament to the dedication and commitment of all student leaders. Let's continue to serve, it sure pays off! #kaustseedsaward #Phd #leadership #service

Congratulations from PSE to Prof. Deanna Lacoste for co-chairing next WEP event.
We are pleased to announce that KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) 2025 Winter Enrichment Program (#WEP2025) will be chaired by Prof. Michael Berumen and co-chaired by Prof. Deanna Lacoste. Join us from January 12-23, 2025, for a journey into the theme "Outliers." Michael Berumen is a Professor of Marine Science at KAUST and Associate Dean of the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division. He has been the Director of the KAUST Red Sea Research Center for several years. Professor Berumen's research interests are focused on coral reef ecology, including larval connectivity in coral reef fishes, movement ecology of marine organisms, and biodiversity and biogeography of coral reef ecosystems. These projects utilize techniques ranging from in-situ observations to comparative genomics. He is part of an international team developing techniques to track larval fish's dispersal patterns, and he advises key stakeholders on making scientifically informed conservation decisions. Deanna Lacoste is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at KAUST and the Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Program. Professor Lacoste's research interests are plasma-assisted combustion and flame dynamics, with special emphasis on controlling thermoacoustic instabilities by non-equilibrium plasma discharges. She is also interested in detonation and developing optical diagnostics for combustion and electrical discharges. Stay tuned for the Call for Proposals! #KAUST #WEP2025 #Outliers
