Dragonlance was originally created for AD&D and later used in several related series of novels, and eventually officially adapted to D&D 3rd edition. It is set on the world of Krynn.

In 2001, Wizards of the Coast licensed Sovereign Press, a company founded by Weis and her then-husband Don Perrin, to publish further Dragonlance materials, starting with the Dragonlance Campaign Setting book for D&D 3rd edition in 2003. However, in April 2007, Weis announced that Wizards of the Coast had not renewed Sovereign's license, and that Dragonlance RPG supplements and accessories would only be released through the end of that year.
