How much does my high rep immunise me against bans? I have got quite a few downvotes recently, and I actually don't want to be banned.

IIRC this user was until recently banned. For a long time... maybe a year

Bans are always private. When it happens because of exchanges in comments that are inflammatory the comments get removed quite quickly, so we ordinary low rep users dont really have any data

But I will say you are misusing this site to vent your personal life issues. Generally speaking I never get into the closevote/flag business and rarely downvote. But I guess if you continue as you do a ban will come inevitably.

  • More systemically: If a user crosses a threshold of closed questions/answers the system bans them (without mod intervention). And I believe that the user self-deleting their own messed up Q/As does not improve their score

  • @Rushi: This is true, but it's important to emphasize that it's not quite the same as a full site ban (which sets rep to 1 and disallows basically all interactions). The system bans you describe will instead block only asking or answering questions (as applicable depending on which kind of post got downvoted/closed too much), with all other interactions still allowed.

Nothing protects a user from being banned given they break the rules.

Over time, there have always been users (sometimes with six-digit rep on other sites) who crossed lines and been banned, some of them life-long, network wide.

An early and rather (in)famous example is this user.

@andrós It has long been noted since you've been more or less open with it. Thus, it will, of course, be considered when making decisions like that.

@andrós The user mentioned in comments had 1 warning and 3 shorter suspensions before their first 1-year-ban...we do escalate such things slowly 😉
