Celebrating her recent return, we caught up with DNV’s Digital Trainee Hedda Kjetun Dyngeland on her immersive two-month placement with the Veracity team in Shanghai! A UX/UI designer by trade, this golden opportunity provided Hedda with the chance to not only explore and engage in other competencies across the business – but experience life and culture in one of the world's most dynamic and captivating cities. “I could write a whole book based on my time in Shanghai! It was a rewarding challenge to step out of my comfort zone and gain new professional and personal experiences. Thanks to the support and guidance of my host units and teams, I got a great peek into the day-to-day life and work at DNV there, including: 💻 Understanding Front-End Development and Testing: Working closely with the Operational Vessel Data (OVD) and Veracity Marketplace teams, I gained hands-on experience in preparing, executing, and automating test cases. I also became familiar with the essential tools, languages, and topics related to front-end development. 🎨 Collaborating on Design Projects: Teaming up with the lead UX designer in Shanghai, it was great to be able to give my input on the design of multiple ongoing projects and initiatives, including contributing to mock-ups and workshops with project owners from Maritime Advisory. 🚢 Visiting the Shipyards: A memorable highlight was shadowing a DNV surveyor at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard in Pudong. Here, I learned about the various sections of the yard, witnessed the intricate shipbuilding processes, and even boarded a container ship under construction. 🍜 Getting a taste of Chinese culture: Thanks to my colleagues, I experienced the best of Shanghai! From bikes trip in Qian Tan Park, to kayaking, shopping, and experiencing the diverse culinary traditions and the finest Shanghai cuisine, it was an unforgettable experience!"

This week, 30 of Veracity by DNV’s Maritime Industry Delivery Team joined forces to embark on an extraordinary journey back to the Viking age! Imagine the year is 1052; Harald Hardrada – the reigning King of Norway – and his warriors are due to set sail on another perilous journey from Hringariki. Assisting in the construction of his Viking ship, the weaving of the sails, and the grand preparations for a traditional feast send-off, our team had the unique opportunity to work together and experience life in the day of a Viking. With bonds strengthened and bellies filled, this was the ultimate team-building activity to take in a bit of Norwegian history while igniting a sense of shared purpose. Thank you to the passionate team at the Hardraade Viking Ship Association for having us!🙌

Captured! 📷 A fantastic afternoon for DNV teams at the annual ODA-Nettverk Inspiration Day, held in Oslo city center last week. Themed "Decoding Decisions", we welcomed the opportunity to hear from industry experts on the latest digital trends, and how we can better navigate the tech-infused landscape of decision-making by understanding the science behind deciphering our options and dealing with uncertainty. Key takeaway? From Manav Rihel Kumar's conversation on whether we ‘Are we tapping into diversity's potential in decision making?’ to Ishita Barua, MD PhD's presentation on ‘How to leverage AI for better health outcomes’, to name a few, we were reminded that #DiversityinTech and equal opportunities in the workplace are more critical than ever in steering technology and innovation in the right direction for our society. A highlight this week at #Posidonia2024, we were pleased to officially welcome Chris-Marine AB onboard as Veracity's latest Integrated Partner. In sync with our mission to help customers simplify and quality-assure their emissions reporting processes, the partnership integrates Trust-Ocean (Chris-Marine’s performance and emissions monitoring solution designed to automatically collect sensor data onboard) with the Veracity platform and DNV's verification services. We caught up with the technology provider in Athens to hear how this is benefiting customers, such as ship management company HAMMONIA Reederei GmbH & Co. Some great insights shared at this week's expert talk held by Veracity’s Head of Customer Success and Onboarding, Line J.C.H. Dahl and Head of Partnerships, Barry Authers at #Posidonia2024. Together, they reflected on the valuable lessons learned from 6 months of #EUETS and how the maritime emissions network is taking shape. Barry and Line also addressed how Veracity and DNV's Emissions Connect solution is effectively harnessing our growing partner ecosystem to improve collaboration, automation, and connectivity across the value chain. Together with our partners, we are lifting the quality of emissions data so that it can confidently serve its operational and commercial purpose, and help us prepare for #FuelEU Maritime regulation, coming into force from 1 January 2025.
