💡 #PlasticWaste Plastic pollution is everybody’s business, and especially for those shaping the policy and legislation to prevent plastic waste. 📃   The amount of plastic pollution ending up in the oceans each year is equivalent to one garbage truck per minute, with an estimated 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the oceans. With 80% of ocean plastic originating on land, we must develop approaches to “turn off the tap”. Legislators are driving plastic waste strategies, such as deposit return schemes and the European Union’s Single-Use Plastics Directive targeting separate plastic bottle collection of 90% by 2029, and 30% recycled content in plastic bottles by 2030.   ♻️ TOMRA believes a #GlobalPlasticsTreaty has the power to address the plastic pollution crisis at scale. #CustomerStories Daybreak Southlink store in Ireland boosts drink container recycling with TOMRA M1! 🇮🇪 https://lnkd.in/dVJXQ8Qz ♻️ Daybreak Southlink has embraced the new Irish deposit return scheme with the TOMRA M1 reverse vending machine, which features a compact and user-friendly design. 🏪 Store owner Brendan Scally shares: "My son and I collect cans weekly and recycle them on Saturdays. He loves it and feels rewarded." Since the machine installation, the store has collected over 100,000 containers, with positive community feedback. 🔧 Store manager Dave Barry praises TOMRA’s support: "Their remote assistance and prompt technician visits keep our machine running smoothly." #TOMRAM1 #ReverseVending #Ireland

#PlasticWaste 🗓️ Each July sees a global movement to be part of the solution to plastic waste and pollution. 🌏 Almost one-third of the world’s plastic packaging ends up in nature as litter, while 54% ends up in landfills or incinerators.     But, does it have to be this way? Absolutely not! TOMRA’s reverse vending solutions collect more than 46 billion drink containers across the globe each year for reuse and recycling. Sounds like a lot, but it’s actually less than 3% of all drink containers sold annually!     We hope to bring the remaining 97% into the loop. ♾️ More containers returned for recycling means fewer leave the loop as litter or landfill.
