It has been one year already since I posted the picture below.
One year since we published the press release, and my mailbox and phone exploded.
One year since we moved into the Sendcloud office and gained 400+ colleagues from one day to the next.
And one year in which a lot has happened, but also some things have not.
When announcing the news, I wrote down three main reasons why we believed this acquisition was the best move:
📈 Gaining access to Sendcloud's sales channels and all its experience in areas such as marketing and customer success;
🧑💻 Accelerating our product development and developing new solutions together;
🤝 An extremely good cultural match between both organizations, leading to a smooth integration.
So, where are we one year later?
→ Well, we added a bunch of new customers, including the first international ones. But not at the pace we envisioned, for many good reasons (sales cycles, segmentation, international PMF, etc.) and thus valuable learnings. On the other hand, interest in and adoption of Sendcloud products and services by our own customers is way higher than anticipated, leading to interesting cross-sells.
→ Finding our way in how to market the product in the new setting took quite some time, but especially this year, we picked up the pace, sparking interest globally and generating more and more leads every week.
→ When integrating the products, you always stumble upon unforeseen issues slowing down product development. We migrated very fast to AWS, then found out that talking data the same way took a bit more time and work. With that being fixed, our updated analytics product will be at a much higher level.
→ Already, we jointly developed a new solution: the invoice checker. Something we were both working on pre-acquisition, and by leveraging each other’s know-how, we could really speed it up and make it even better.
→ The same is now happening with the shipping intelligence and smart shipping teams to build the best possible recommender solution for merchants, small and large.
→ Culturally, it indeed was a very good match. From day one, we were welcomed into the office, and the team was at ease in no time. This also made it easy to work with other teams and departments on the integration.
→ The things we probably found (and still find) most difficult to get used to are the different ways of working and processes around them. Although this is definitely something where we also learn from each other and become smarter every day.
This list goes on, but it’s safe to say that some things went very well and some things still need some time and work. Some of these things are frustrating and some are easy to explain. But I’m confident that by the end of this year the integration will be done.
On a personal level, I have truly enjoyed the first year: visiting the coolest events, doing great marketing stuff, and closing deals we could never have imagined one year ago!
On to an even better second year! 💙
