hungarian Wiktionary vandalism

Status:    Done

Hello!

This guy keeps vandalizing articles on the Hungarian Wiktionary, from various IPs for a month now and also doing cross-wiki vandalism, but I didn't follow him on other wikis. he keeps trying to prove that the Romani language doesn't exist and invented a new language "csermán" instead. I think it would be a good idea to remove the article "csermán" and prevent it from recreation, or lock it as an empty page, since there is nothing in literature that points to its existence. thank you for patrolling.

Thank you! 1981 (talk) 13:21, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Done as requested. It is only going to mildly inconvenience this person, as surely they will find a new target. We can work on that though if you can identify the sorts of things and words that they utilise.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:29, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Delete pages with "Höfundur2" prefix on iswikisource

Status:    Done

Iswikisource has no admins.

6 years ago, the author namespace was created on iswikisource, under the name "Höfundur". This was done at T46164. During that time, pages where temporarily moved over to names with "Höfundur2" prefix so the config change could be made. The pages have been moved back over to the "Höfundur" (author) namespace, but the redirect from "Höfundur2" is unnecessary and as such, the redirects should be deleted.

Here is an list over pages to delete:

History merge on hiwikitionary

Status:    Done

Can someone here please perform the history merge I describe at wikt:hi:User talk:Mahitgar#History merge? That wiki doesn't have any active admins (out of two: Mahitgar and Yann), and the two pages I am referring to still have not been edited again since I left the comment there (i.e., same exact request still applies). BTW, for more context: the "Broken/…" page was resurrected by the 'namespaceDupes.php' maintenance script after a namespace change made the original page inaccessible, which is (presumably) why the duplicate page was created by Yann. - dcljr (talk) 02:04, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Remove flow from kab.wikipedia

Status:    Not done

I apologize for the ranting tone, but I feel really frustrated, I complained about this childish interface to a global sysop here: https://kab.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topic:Uzfxevkbop1f0htt (notice the stupid guid link instead of url#subsection, I had to click on 'Topic' in order to find the URI, and I assure you it wasn't easy to find).

At first glance, it might look user-friendly (especially for mobile users who think that facebook is internet, or its incarnation), but if you want to do a slightly complicated thing it becomes a nightmare... I can't count the number of times I wanted to comment or send a message but I refrained because of this dumb interface. Recently, I had -and still have- to handle a conflict between two users [54] (Sorry, it does not link to the subsection, I can't figure out how to reference it), it's a topic I created in order to appease the situation, now I get a lot of notifications, I want to participate, I click, I'm lost, it's beyond me: I can't post a message in that retarded interface.

Why are we the only ones using that ****** discussion mode? I've checked other wikipedias and none of them have adopted it, whatever the initial intent was (and I believe that the intention was good) but in human language this is called a failure, and a failure has only one vocation: disappear. We are so few in this Wiki project (kab), please do not handicap us. Thanks in advance for your help and I apologize once more for the ranting tone. --Sami At Ferḥat (talk) 23:36, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Main page tab fix on iswikibooks

Status:    Done

Fix the main page tab by removing content from b:is:Melding:Common.js. The content which should be removed starts at and includes the "Main page tab no longer says article" sentance to the next section, which are the collapsible tables. The message at b:is:MediaWiki:Mainpage-nstab will be used instead, and that is allready correcly configured. This is a routine fix, which is mentioned at mw:ResourceLoader/Migration_guide_(users)#Tabs_(vector), which has been needed since mediawiki 1.17. I mentioned this fix at the user talk page of the only sysop on iswikibooks, Salvor, linked above.--Snaevar (talk) 19:04, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Requesting deletion of pages listed here, which is under GS scope. I'm not doing this myself as I am the nominator and want to avoid conflict. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 21:14, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Many of these are works created by Cekli829, a user with a body of work, and they are now claimed as copyright violations. I would think that they should be deserving of a discussion. I am not comfortable speedy deleting them.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:24, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
I had brought up the issue on his talk page. Those articles are direct copies from a news article or similar online outlet which is linked on most of the pages. He reworded a few words, commented "Fixed." in the local wiki's language on his talk page, and didn't respond to my further request for deletion, which does not stop it from being a copyright violation. In regard to a discussion, there is no local community with which to discuss. I left a message after I had first noticed the pages here, and Cekli829 was the only user who responded, also with "Fixed." Thank you, Vermont (talk) 00:38, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Billinghurst, the matter had been brought to Cekli829's (also gagwiki's only active editor and sysop) notice at his t/p and he had rephrased parts of the articles. However, the overall structure as well as many words still remain copied over from the media outlets (particularly anasozu.com). Despite being asked repeatedly to delete the articles he has not responded.  — FR 10:22, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
  • There is also another group of 15+ articles in gagwiki listed at User:FR30799386/datadump which appear to be copy-pastes according to Earwig's Copyright Violations Detector. It would be great if a steward or global sysop could assess and delete them as they see fit. Regards. — FR 10:22, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Sitenotices on closed Wikimania wikis

Status:    Done

Now that all of the past annual Wikimania wikis have been closed (wm2018: was closed about 16 hours ago), I think all of the sitenotices on those wikis should be "harmonized" to contain the same (kind of) information (except possibly a little more "context" could be given in the wm2018 sitenotice, since it just closed).

As you can see if you look through these pages, some are missing completely (2014, 2015, and 2016), others have very little info, and some are more or less OK.

The following information is currently provided in some, but not all, of the sitenotices:

  1. that the wiki is closed (all but 2016, 2015, 2014, 2007, 2006, and 2005)
  2. that the closure means it can't be edited (2012, …, 2008)
  3. the date on which the wiki was closed (only 2013)
  4. a link to the Phabricator task (and/or on-wiki discussion) that caused the wiki to be closed (2018 and 2017)
  5. that information about future Wikimania events can be found at http://wikimania.wikimedia.org/ (only 2018, not surprisingly)
  6. a link to the Wikimania page here at Meta (2013, …, 2005)
  7. a link to information about the wikimania-l list (2013, …, 2008)
  8. which city and year the wiki covers (2007, 2006, 2005)
  9. a link to some kind of "summary" or "feedback" about that year's event (2012, …, 2008)

We should probably briefly discuss which kinds of info should be included in all the sitenotices (so the changes don't need to be made multiple times). I'd say definitely items 1, 2, 5, and 6 — and 8 would be nice, too, as a "courtesy" to readers, since that info is not always immediately apparent when visiting each wiki (especially when landing on a page other than the Main Page).

So, here's a possible template we could use:

This is the wiki for Wikimania YEAR, which was held in CITY.
This wiki is now closed and cannot be edited, but its contents can still be read.
The wiki for upcoming Wikimania events can be found at wikimania.wikimedia.org.
More information about Wikimania in general, including past events, is available on Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki.

And finally: I know all these wikis will eventually be "merged and redirected" (so to speak) to the main Wikimania wiki, but until that process is complete, it would be nice to have consistent, informative sitenotices. - dcljr (talk) 03:01, 2 July 2019 (UTC) — Oops… modified "template" a bit and removed now-irrelevant text. - dcljr (talk) 03:15, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

It this harmonization really worth the effort? Ruslik (talk) 08:27, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
How is it not? The benefit to readers is, I think, obvious. Provided there's no major disagreement about the info to be included in the messages, "the effort" consists solely of edits to 14 pages. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. (In fact, I've put in many times more effort just composing and posting this message here. If I could have just done it myself, I would have. If you'd like me to provide copy-and-paste text to be used on each wiki, I can do that.) - dcljr (talk) 00:10, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
So, please, provide a text to copy-paste. Ruslik (talk) 20:51, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
OK, hang on… - dcljr (talk) 21:21, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Ruslik: See User:Dcljr/Wikimania sitenotices (a temporary page that will be deleted after the changes are completed). - dcljr (talk) 22:28, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
I think that the design of notice currently on the Wikimania 2012 wiki is better. Ruslik (talk) 20:00, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
"Better" in what way? What actual changes are you suggesting would improve the notices at User:Dcljr/Wikimania sitenotices? - dcljr (talk) 02:53, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
Your design is boring. Ruslik (talk) 20:40, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
[eye-roll] Okaaaaay… I have changed the first sitenotice at User:Dcljr/Wikimania sitenotices to look a bit more like the 2012 one. If this is acceptable to you, I will copy those changes to the rest of them. If not, then you make whatever changes you want to that sitenotice and we will proceed from there. - dcljr (talk) 03:40, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
Ok. Ruslik (talk) 20:41, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
I take this to mean "OK, looks fine to me" rather than "OK, I'll make my own changes". So… I have replicated my changes to all the (proposed) sitenotices at User:Dcljr/Wikimania sitenotices. Please copy them to the appropriate MediaWiki pages. - dcljr (talk) 00:33, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
