Star Trek: Mission's End was a five-part Star Trek: The Original Series comics miniseries released by IDW Publishing in 2009. The series was written by Ty Templeton with art by Steve Molnar, and depicts the final mission of the USS Enterprise on her five-year mission under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. It was first collected as an omnibus in October 2009, then reprinted in hardcover as the 100th volume in Eaglemoss Collections' Graphic Novel Collection series in 20 February 2020.

Description[]

The most important "lost" tale of the Star Trek saga can now be told: The final mission of the original Starship Enterprise and her crew. What prompts Mr. Spock and Doctor Leonard McCoy to retire from Starfleet? What earns Kirk his promotion to Admiral? And what is the mystery of Archenar-IV that threatens to tear the Federation itself apart? All will be revealed in this collection of the five-issue mini-series, with appearances by fan-favorite characters.

Summary[]

The series centers around the artificial planet Archernar IV and it's two native sentient species, the Archernarians and Crawlers. The series begins at the start of the Enterprise's five-year mission at the start of contact with Archernar, and then skips ahead to the Enterprise's final mission to the planet as it prepares to join the Federation. At the conclusion of the Archernar mission the Enterprise returns to Earth, with the crew moved by the mission to take on new roles, as seen at the start of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
