Here is another good example of spin-off ideas, many of which we have received again this year: The #Smartillage project from our #INNOspace network Space2Agriculture is already running successfully, using technology from a #Mars rover to analyse the composition of arable soil in order to make #farming more efficient 🚜 The data could be used to tailor tillage to specific needs - for example, to avoid working soil that has already been loosened. This saves time and fuel. It is conceivable that a drone could be used to fly the measurement system in front of the tractor and transmit the data wirelessly to the driver's cab. At the moment, however, the focus is on optimising the measurement system and data evaluation to generate data that is relevant in practice. The project is carried out at Technische Universität Dresden and funded by the Deutsche Raumfahrtagentur im DLR (German Space Agency at DLR).

The decision has been made: This year's Top 3 🥇 🥈 🥉 in all six challenges have been decided. The selection process is complete and the finalists will be notified shortly. The next step will be the start of the joint journey between each partner and their finalists with an on-site coaching session in Bonn. On the following day, the TOP 3 of all Challenges will pitch to a joint jury with representatives of all partners to determine the most promising submission of the entire INNOspace Masters 2024 – to find the team that will be crowned as the Overall Winner 🏅. This will take place on the 8th and 9th of July in Bonn. Stay tuned!

This year's Top 8 again includes many good spin-off ideas - #space technologies for use on Earth. Take the upBUS project from our INNOspace initiative. upBUS is a hybrid #mobility concept in which a vehicle alternates between a cable car and an autonomous bus - allowing passengers to remain in the cabin. By using the airspace above road level, congested roads can be relieved and time spent in traffic jams can be reduced. The multifunctional interface of the upBUS was developed for space travel and is now being further developed for public transport. The project is being carried out at RWTH Aachen University and was funded by the Deutsche Raumfahrtagentur im DLR (German Space Agency at DLR). More information: upBUS

Congratulations on this great interim success, which once again shows how space technologies can be used here on Earth. Here is a short summary from the DLR website: On 25 June 2024, the AHEAD project team demonstrated two use cases with the semi-autonomous remote-controlled SHERP vehicle: a humanitarian aid delivery for people in hard-to-reach regions of the world and a rescue mission in a flood situation. The vehicle can reach places that are too difficult for conventional means of transport and too dangerous for people. The project is being led by the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics. The test missions were carried out in close cooperation with the United Nations World Food Programme and the Bavarian Red Cross on the Bundeswehr site in Nordheim am Main, Bavaria. Good luck tomorrow! A very important issue to which space technologies make a decisive contribution.
🏙 Come and meet us in person at the SmartCitiesWorld Cities Climate Action Summit on Thursday, 27 June. We’ll be showcasing the potential for space applications to tackle the challenges of climate change and address the unprecedented growth that cities are facing. The European Space Agency - ESA's Business Applications and Space Solutions programme has invested more than €15m in sustainable projects for our urban spaces, carrying out more than 60 projects and studies in the last 10 years. At this year’s Summit we will be showcasing some of these initiatives and talking about the wide range of funding opportunities on offer from our programme. 👋 Find us at the ESA Space Solutions booth ➡ https://lnkd.in/gQQEi2Fi Dr Kavitha Muthu Dr Bahaaeddin Alhaddad #CCAS24 #LCAW2024 #ClimateAction #ClimateAction #SmartCities
