Global Controller

We have an exciting opportunity with a well-known international technology company for the position of Global Controller.

In this role, you will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and oversee accounting, statutory reporting, global tax, payroll operations, and the design and maintenance of adequate systems and controls. You will translate concepts, develop strategies, implement changes, create programs responsive to the external environment, and participate in cross-functional business and cultural development.

This hybrid role requires residency in Berlin, Germany.

General Responsibilities:

• Perform strategic management and execution of critical controllership processes, providing technical and operational advice to business teams and senior management.
• Act as the primary accounting and tax authority and leader, overseeing all accounting policies and procedures for the company.
• Provide accounting, finance, and reporting leadership and expertise to high-impact cross-functional projects, resolving complex business challenges.
• Champion ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance internal controls over financial reporting and ensure budget and forecast accuracy.
• Provide leadership and strategic insight on accounting and compliance in complex global environments, guiding global associates on high-risk accounting and reporting areas.
• Oversee the corporate accounting team, including general ledger, consolidation, technical accounting, tax, cash management, and revenue recognition activities.
• Manage the company’s BPO relationship for various accounting functions (P2P, R2R, Payroll, O2C).
• Provide technical guidance across the business, clarifying new laws and regulations related to GAAP, Tax, and Statutory reporting.
• Manage external auditor relationships to ensure timely and efficient completion of audit procedures.
• Lead, motivate, and develop talent within the organization through coaching, counseling, and performance evaluation.
• Identify opportunities and drive projects to improve business processes and support.
• Establish, implement, manage, and monitor critical accounting and reporting policies, processes, and associated metrics.
• Collaborate closely with the Legal team to set standards and drive compliance across the organization.
• Direct tax strategy, planning, and operational responsibility for various business units, minimizing the company’s tax burden while ensuring full compliance.
• Participate in the Investment Committee overseeing the investment of the company’s balance sheet assets.
• Provide support for M&A and other corporate development transactions, optimizing deal structures and mitigating risks.

Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 15+ years of experience, or relevant experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of “Big firm” public accounting experience (preferred).
• CPA certification required.
• Finance leadership experience in a complex multinational organization.
• Strong strategic vision for business, change management, and continuous improvement.
• Subject matter expert in multiple finance and accounting verticals.
• Experience in M&A deal structuring and reviewing complex financial models.
• Proficiency in legal entity structure design and optimization.
• Experience in statutory reporting and compliance in a multinational corporation.
• Ability to lead and manage a geographically distributed team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and create alignment.
• Exceptional team leadership skills with the ability to develop, engage, and evaluate team members.
• Strong technical expertise to coach and manage the team.
