We are looking for a new colleague to join our Student Success Team in Berlin on a full-time basis /40 hour a week starting as soon as possible, who shares our vision of excellence in education and who is committed to making a difference in the lives of our students and staff.


Diversity Officer (m, f, d)


The opportunity:



We are seeking a proactive Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Officer to work collaboratively across various campuses of the UE, with the focus on the student community. This role presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to lead and shape projects, from conception to implementation, aligning with the university’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategies.


The Diversity Officer will collaborate closely with the Student Success Centre on a range of projects relating to diversity, equality, and inclusion focused on students experience on campus. The role necessitates a high level of initiative and independent decision-making, including leading projects in alignment with the university's long-term EDI strategies. The successful candidate will also contribute to complementary initiatives across the department’s teaching and research communities.


Key tasks and Responsibilities:


Organizational Change:

  • Evaluate and update UE’s regulatory framework on diversity, gender equality, non-discrimination, equal opportunities, and inclusion with a focus on the student community
  • Promote a diversity- and gender-sensitive organizational culture by overseeing the implementation of the Gender Equality Plan and integrating DEI aspects into teaching and research
  • Identify, organize, and lead relevant training sessions and workshops for students and academic staff
  • Partner with the student-led Inclusive Leadership Roundtable, coordinating its meetings and activities to further its mandate
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and report breaches of compliance with anti-discrimination laws and the UE’s Code of Conduct
  • Implement reporting and controlling tools and support audit and accreditation processes related to DEI


Events and Communications:

  • Collaborate with marketing and corporate communications teams to ensure alignment of internal and external communications with our commitment to DEI, including Charta der Vielfalt.
  • Network and exchange best practices with DEI managers of other international universities
  • Organize DEI events, such as Girls’ Day and Diversity Day


Support for Individuals:

  • Offer support, advice, and advocacy to students and employees experiencing discrimination
  • Provide support for employees and students in reconciling family and work responsibilities
  • Assist in developing systems for reporting incidents of discrimination


Your profile:


  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., intersectionality studies, gender studies, critical race studies, migration studies, ethnic studies, higher education, human resource management, etc.)
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion
  • Experienced in working with and advocating for LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and expertise in addressing issues related to racism
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with individuals with disabilities
  • Strong familiarity with employing an intersectional approach in the implementation of DEI strategies is highly preferred
  • Previous teaching and research involvement in structural discrimination and the experiences of marginalized communities is advantageous
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and flexibly to achieve objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Prior knowledge and experience in an academic department preferred
  • Familiarity with the Charta der Vielfalt initiative is advantageous
  • Experience in leading DEI initiatives or equal opportunity roles, preferably in an international organization
  • Solid knowledge and experience of DEI in the German and European higher education context
  • Fluent English speaker with a working knowledge of German
  • Well-organized, able to multitask, and service-oriented
  • Previous experience in research, workshop facilitation, and mediation on DEI topics is a plus
