Yesterday, our co-founder Arno Zimmermann, PhD, had the opportunity to discuss the state of the sustainable aviation ecosystem in 2024, organized by Sustainable Aero Lab. 🔎 THE STATE of SAF? Industry and governments are using a small but promisingly increasing amount of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from biogenic sources. However, the critical ramp-up of SAF made from electricity (e-SAF) remains too slow to reach EU targets. Today, e-SAF production costs are high. 💸 REVOLUTIONIZING COSTS: Spark e-Fuels' unique approach and breakthrough technologies allow significantly lower e-SAF production costs, showing the path to making sustainable e-fuels affordable. A big shoutout to Siemens Energy who has built an impressive electrolyzer factory in the heart of Berlin, setting an wonderful example of the up-and-coming #hydrogen economy. 🙏 Thank you Energy Tech Summit and Contrarian Ventures for some busy and exciting days in Bilbao last week! 🎤 Besides pitching my startup Spark e-Fuels in the #greenmolecules category at the ETS pitch competition, I also had the pleasure to share my thoughts at an e-fuels panel. 💧 E-fuels are essential for emission reduction in sectors such as aviation, shipping, or chemistry. However, further development is needed to overcome existing challenges. Here are just some of the topics we discussed: 1️⃣ New tech: Promising technologies or research areas are emerging at early stage with potential to overcome current hurdles (efficiency, capex cost, flexibility, etc.) 2️⃣ Scalability: However, besides great results at lab-scale, technologies must be rapidly scalable to decrease cost and significantly reduce emissions 3️⃣ Synergies: E-fuels are one part of the overall energy transition; leveraging existing infrastructure and solutions can help increase the impact   🤝 Jonathan Tudor, Ingacio Echavarría Díaz-Guardamino, and Dr. Frederik Hetsch (Ph.D.), I really enjoyed discussing with you last week and learning more about your perspective on e-fuels!
