🌞 Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein: Tag der offenen Tür an den Deutsche Institute für Textil- und Faserforschung Denkendorf (DITF) Rund #2000 Besucherinnen und Besucher konnten sich am 14. Juli davon überzeugen, dass #angewandte Textilforschung ganz entschieden zur Verbesserung unserer Lebensverhältnisse beiträgt. ⚗ An 29 Forschungsstationen und mit einem umfassenden Vortragsprogramm gewährten die #DITF dem Publikum Einblick in ihre #Labore und #Technika und informierten zu aktuellen Forschungsthemen.   🔬 #Fasern und Textilien stecken in vielen Produkten des täglichen Bedarfs und leisten auch als #technische Textilien wertvolle Dienste in fast allen #industriellen Bereichen. Produkte, neue Verfahren, #Prüftechniken und Laborversuche - an den Stationen wurde eindrucksvoll vermittelt, an welchen Themen die Forscherinnen und Forscher in Denkendorf aktuell arbeiten. Die große #Themenvielfalt bewies, dass Textilforschung unseren gesamten Lebensalltag abbildet. ⚕ Zu allen relevanten Zukunftsthemen wie #Medizin, #Mobilität, #Architektur, 🌊 #Umwelt und #Energie wird in Denkendorf geforscht, werden textile Erzeugnisse und Fertigungsverfahren verbessert oder neu geschaffen. 🚘 Neben den Forschungsstationen, die man in Rundgängen selbstständig erkunden konnte, stellten die Forscherinnen und Forscher in 13 Vorträgen zu ausgewählten Forschungsthemen ihre Arbeitsergebnisse dem Publikum vor. Im Mittelpunkt aller Vortragsthemen: Der praktische Bezug zum #Alltag. Denn Forschung an den DITF ist angewandt und soll immer #Resultate liefern, die in der #Praxis umgesetzt werden. Dass das gelingt, davon konnten die Referentinnen und Referenten zu Themen wie zum Beispiel #Bionik, #Faserverbundwerkstoffen und nachhaltiger Faserherstellung überzeugen.   👨👩👧👦 Als weiteres Highlight boten #Mitmachstationen die Gelegenheit, selbst #Experimente durchzuführen und dabei wissenschaftliche Zusammenhänge zu verstehen. Familien versuchten sich an Experimenten aus der #Chemie, nutzten #Pflanzenvliese für Aussaatversuche und erkundeten selbständig mit dem #Stereomikroskop textile Materialien. Die Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler freuten sich über das rege Interesse an ihrer #Forschungsarbeit. Die positive #Resonanz ist ein guter Grund, in ein paar Jahren wieder die Labore und Technika zu öffnen. 🍭 What do #nonwovens and candy floss have in common? Visitors could find out at the University of Stuttgart's Tag der #Wissenschaft. The DITF were also present on the Vaihingen campus this year. Among other things, the team showcased a 🌫 fog catcher that supplies people in dry areas with drinking water 💧, an office chair that uses #sensors to show whether we are sitting correctly and a method to find out what kind of #carbon #footprint we leave behind with our clothing 👗 . There were once again colorful ribbons from the #braiding machine and lots of fun #experimenting 🔬 . As always, our skeleton “Charlie” was a special attraction. It's amazing where #textiles are used in #medicine. 🙏 Many thanks to all visitors and to the team of scientists!

We are pleased to announce the completion of our projects Wangen Tower and Hybrid Flax Pavilion for the Landesgartenschau in Wangen im Allgäu, Germany. Both projects are the result of research by the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC | University of Stuttgart and demonstrate in very different ways how bio-based materials and bio-inspired structures can open up new avenues for regenerative and expressive architecture.   Situated in the scenic landscape of the western Allgäu, the Wangen Tower is an architectural landmark and pioneering timber structure for the Landesgartenschau. The tower is the very first multi-level, accessible building to use self-shaped, structural timber components: https://lnkd.in/emPw67WG   The Hybrid Flax Pavilion constitutes a central exhibition building on the grounds of the Landesgartenschau. 💡Yesterday's Techtextil excursion was a testament to the unique nature of our #TextileEngineering specialization within the Master's programms #ProcessEngineering and Mechanical Engineering at the Universität Stuttgart. Our students, accompanied by our dedicated research associate and doctoral candidate Matthias Ridder, were immersed in an unforgettable experience. We're overjoyed by the enthusiasm and support shown by our industry collaborators, highlighting the tremendous value of these initiatives in shaping the future of textile technology. 👍🏻 Such excursions to fairs, along with visits of companies, are integral components of our program, providing invaluable insights and hands-on learning opportunities. 💡 New #OpenAccess Paper 📄 about coreless filament wound (#CFW) structures 👉 https://lnkd.in/esw9EYrK The paper suggests a structural solution for positioning planetary #sunshade satellites at Sun-Earth Lagrange point 1 to control solar radiation and counteract the effects of climate change, addressing issues like scalability, on-orbit manufacturing and in-situ resource utlization. 📰 I am pleased to share our latest publication: #OpenAccess Full-text 👉 https://lnkd.in/ei8m6Y52 The paper deals with the development of #FlectoSol, a new adaptive façade shading module made from fiber-reinforced plastic. FlectoSol is functionalized on both sides with photovoltaics from ASCA GmbH & Co. KG and can thus not only continuously adjust the shading of a building, but also generate energy for its own control at the same time. Thanks to our project sponsor for funding this project!
