🚀 #Curious2024 #FutureInsightConference Recap 🚀 The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (#DFKI) had the honor of participating in the Curious 2024 Future Insight Conference in Mainz, and it was an incredible experience! One of the highlights was the captivating talk by Marc Raibert, founder of #BostonDynamics about their new AI lab for robotics. Additionally, Dr. Robert Langer from #MIT provided invaluable insights into what it takes to bring innovative ideas to market readiness. To offer insights into the multifaceted world of AI and its potential to revolutionize the life sciences, Andreas Dengel, Executive Director of DFKI, shared his keynote with the audience on Thursday. The “Ask me Anything”-Discussion afterward opened the possibility to address specific questions surrounding the field of #biomedicine and how AI contributes to improving data analysis and diagnostics. The conference was not only a platform for knowledge sharing, but also an opportunity to experience the excellent organization and beautiful venue. After an engaging opening by Ulrich Betz, the #Curious2024 #FutureInsightConference has finally started. Between Wednesday, 10th of July and Thursday, 11th of July, the selected ensemble of the world’s leading scientists and innovators will deliver insights into their scientific work, provide workshops, and raise the curtains on what is to come. Andreas Dengel, Executive Director of the #DFKI (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence) in Kaiserslautern and Professor for Artificial Intelligence at the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), will be joining in with his highly decorated colleagues on Thursday. "AI relies on high-quality data to uncover deep insights into patterns and correlations. In my presentation tomorrow, I will draw on examples from ophthalmology and dermatology, as well as the analysis of gene sequences and cell cultures, to demonstrate how AI is currently transforming the life sciences. This includes advancements in both data generation and diagnostic capabilities." KI-basierte Materialinventur bei ACO Guss: Effizienz durch Technologie 🚀 Die ACO Guss GmbH, Teil der ACO Gruppe (ACO Eurobar GmbH) und führende Eisengießerei in Europa, setzt auf innovative Lösungen! Gemeinsam mit dem RZzKI wird eine KI-basierte permanente Inventur eingeführt. 💡 Warum? Die Inventur von 11.000 Tonnen Maschinenformguss, Strangguss und Bauguss auf 35.000 m² ist eine Herausforderung. KI soll hier unterstützen, Kosten senken und den Aufwand reduzieren. Erste Tests sind vielversprechend: Mit Quadrocopter-Aufnahmen und Objekterkennung konnten bereits Bauteile lokalisiert und gezählt werden. Weitere Bildaufnahmemethoden wie Handscanner und stationäre Kameras werden ebenfalls getestet. „Wichtig ist, dass der Mitarbeiter das Ergebnis prüfen, korrigieren und ins System einpflegen kann“, betont Andreas Plößner, Logistikleiter bei ACO Guss. Das Projekt wird in den existierenden Inventarisierungsprozess integriert, um die beste Umsetzung zu finden, unter Berücksichtigung von Bedienbarkeit, Datenschutz und Wirtschaftlichkeit. 🛠️ Sönke Knoch, Projektleiter beim RZzKI, ergänzt: „Wir unterstützen Unternehmen bei der sinnvollen Implementierung von KI und begleiten die ersten Schritte.“ Startpunkt war ein Gespräch, organisiert von der IHK Pfalz, gefolgt von mehreren Vor-Ort-Terminen und einer Technologieführung im Power4Production-Zentrum, dem Zentrum für innovative Produktionstechnologie von Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) und ZeMA - Zentrum für Mechatronik und Automatisierungstechnik gemeinnützige GmbH. Gesche Joost ist international vernetzt, akademisch erfahren, persönlich brillant und wissenschaftlich herausragend qualifiziert, um diese Position mit Strahlkraft für Deutschland auszufüllen. Und das ist besonders wichtig in einer Zeit, in der der kulturelle Diskurs eine überragende Bedeutung hat, um multilaterale Lösungen durch gegenseitiges Verständnis zu befördern und, wie Gesche Joost es ausdrückt, ´Demokratie durch Kultur zu verteidigen´. Prof. Dr. Gesche Joost leitet das Design Research Lab der Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) und für das DFKI in Berlin den Forschungsbereich Design Research eXplorations (DRX). Sie erforscht intelligente Technologien aus einer gestalterischen Perspektive, trägt durch Material Interaction, Wearable Computing und Community Engagement aktiv zu nachhaltigen Transformationsprozessen bei und verfolgt dabei das Ziel, den Menschen die Teilhabe an der digitalen Gesellschaft zu ermöglichen.

Die diesjährige Berlin 6G Conference hat mit einem 🚀Rekord von rund 900 Teilnehmenden aus Forschung, Wirtschaft und Politik begonnen. Nun ist sie vorüber und wir blicken zurück auf wegweisende drei Tage.
