Last week, The Hashgraph Association teamed up with UZH Blockchain Center for an immersive day dedicated to exploring Hedera and the potential of distributed ledger technologies (DLTs). The day began with Greg Scullard, Executive Director EMEA at Swirlds Labs, providing a comprehensive overview of the Hedera network and its unique consensus mechanisms. Micha Roon, Head of Engineering at The Hashgraph Association, followed with a hands-on session on DAG usage in the Hashgraph ecosystem, equipping attendees with practical skills for developing on the Hedera platform. At TRUST SQUARE, industry leaders such as Kamal Youssefi, Dr. Daniel Diemers, and Mikael Björn shared their expertise on topics ranging from blockchain-based stablecoins, metaverse, to telco platforms. These sessions sparked engaging discussions and highlighted the diverse applications of distributed ledger technology in today's world. We were thrilled to host David Chaum, a visionary in digital cash and blockchain technology. David, invited to Switzerland by The Hashgraph Association, shared his groundbreaking work, including founding Better Than Money and DigiCash, developing the first known blockchain protocol, and his current leadership in quantum-resistant blockchain innovations with the xx network. The day concluded with a memorable sunset cruise on Lake Zurich, providing a scenic backdrop for networking and further exchanges of ideas. We are honoured to have David Chaum, a leading figure in #cryptography and privacy-preserving technologies, as a distinguished speaker at the upcoming CATCH Forum at SHED Zug! David is widely acknowledged as the mastermind inventor behind digital cash. His 1982 dissertation was the first known proposal for a #blockchain protocol. He founded the xx network and serves as the CEO of Elixxir, a quantum-secure platform for communication and value exchange that preserves metadata privacy. One of his most significant achievements is the award-winning introduction of secure multi-party computation (MPC) in his 1983 paper, 'Blind Signatures for Untraceable Payments.' This work laid the foundation for many cryptographic protocols essential to blockchain technology. David's groundbreaking contributions include: - Founding DigiCash and creating the first digital currency, eCash, in 1995. - Developing cryptographic "vault systems" and proposing the first blockchain protocol. - Inventing mix network technology, which led to platforms like Tor. - Coining the term "multi-party computing" (MPC). - Leading quantum-resistant blockchain innovations with the xx network. With a Ph.D. in computer science from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, and a history of teaching at New York University and the University of California, David's contributions to the field are unparalleled. His latest venture, the xx network, launched on Mainnet in 2021, offers a quantum-resistant blockchain network prioritizing privacy in communications and payments.
