When we moved into our new headquarters at One The Esplanade (1TE) last year, it was more than just an office relocation to us. 1TE brought more than 1500 of our workforce together for the first time, in an office space designed to empower the human energy of our people, with our commitment to diversity and inclusion at its core. To create a workplace where everyone feels supported to bring their whole self to work every day, ITE was built with universal access in mind. We carefully considered opportunities to instil an accessible and supportive culture, from physical accessibility and neurodivergent sensory needs; to all gender and multi-faith facilities, features embracing our connection to nature to boost mental wellbeing and consulting spaces to support physical health. We’re proud of our workplace and honoured to be recognised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, as a finalist in the 2024 Diversity and Inclusion Awards for our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Western Australia’s first Urban Shade Forest is sprouting to life in the City of Rockingham. On Saturday, we rolled up our sleeves alongside colleagues from Caltex Australia, our partners Conservation Volunteers Australia, Member for Rockingham, Magenta Marshall MLA, Mayor - City of Rockingham, Cr Deb Hamblin and more than 80 community volunteers, to mark National Tree Day and work towards our goal of planting more than 4500 native plants between May and June this year. During the event, our Asset Development General Manager, Michelle LaPoint, highlighted the strong partnership and commitment to environmental stewardship that we share with CVA.  “Chevron has partnered with CVA for more than 17 years and this national initiative provides yet another opportunity to build on the efforts and successes we’ve already achieved with CVA.” “The Rockingham Urban Shade Forest not only connects the local community with nature, but it also aims to build biodiversity and increase the amount of vegetation and canopy cover in the area.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/dUGSMP3i

Nearly one year ago, the Living STEM program launched to embed First Nations scientific knowledge in classrooms across the Pilbara of Western Australia. Thank you to the team CSIRO, for your ongoing dedication to improving education outcomes, by bringing educators together and equipping them with resources that make science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects more relatable to students. Wayiba, wanthiwa, hello! 👋 With thanks to Chevron Australia, we recently brought Pilbara Educators together for a Living STEM workshop. Led by Custodian and knowledge holder, Ngarluma/Yindjibarndi man Clinton Walker, we identified opportunities to bring local Indigenous knowledge into the science classroom. As part of the workshop, we acknowledged the complex scientific knowledge developed by Indigenous peoples. We explored the biodiversity of intertidal zones, learnt about seasonal indicators, and workshopped ways to highlight these in the classroom. Participating Educators will now explore local partnerships. They'll connect STEM classes to projects on Country, and present at the Living STEM Showcase in November. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) serves as a reminder of our commitment to create a more fair and inclusive future, by connecting with each other across cultures and perspectives, respecting the diversity and dignity of all, and taking tangible steps towards positive change. Last week, we came together in Perth and across our sites to watch Genocide in the Wildflower State; a documentary that follows the history of the Stolen Generation in Western Australia from 1905 to 1970, evidenced by state records, public archives and historical scholarship. Opening the session, Senior Manager of Human Resources for Upstream, Matthew Riordan said, “This is a time to consider our roles and responsibility in continuing to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. "This year’s NRW theme of ‘now more than ever,’ reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing process requiring courage, compassion and collective action.” Thank you to the team at Yokai - Western Australia Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation, for joining us to share your stories as we work together to build greater understanding of our shared history and work towards reconciliation.
